I put the angle alum. on both sides

I'm gonna but for my bows I don't need to get down to them .025 things Kenny talks bout:)

One thing I don't like about mine is the guard over the drive pulley.

It hampers me when trying to even up both sides of a bow, I have to turn the bow upside down to get the other side then I can't see the line.

So I have to hold the bow at an angle to get the other side.

Been thinking about cutting the front part off then put hinges on it to swing it back into place.

I'm going to say you Graphite pad on the platen is wore out.
My guard only has 1 loose bolt in it, I can swing it back out of the way to sand the limb profile

Same sander, same issues. Haven't fixed it yet but will. Total PIA. I took the guards off and I do use a big plastic collection hood on the end. Not a well designed machine. But it runs a belt so..

I will post a picture of the other side today, Underneath

I'm no sure if the platen is really needed, but I replaced the one on my machine last month.  The new platen was less than $30 shipped.

I press a rough riser block against the sanding belt up off the table until it cleans up to make a flat surface, then I put that flat surface on the table and press the side of the rough block against the belt until it cleans up, Now I have 2 sides square to each other. Now I can go to  the band saw or thickness sander to remove more to get the riser block to size.
With my table being square to the platen it's the best way for ME to square up a riser block.
All that friction from the back of the belt will wear out the platen pad in that area over time, like walt said 30.00 will fix it.
I checked my platen pad with a square a couple years ago and it needed replacing

I guess I use my edge sander different than some of yeese guy's so you may not have that problem

The belt sander in the Machine shop I worked in just had a bare platen on it, no pad, over many years of use the platen was not flat.
