Was tapering limbs on edge sander. Focusing on limb close to tip and heard/felt something so stopped. Edge of limb 2-3" past fades had. Aught top edge of belt and carved a big gouge in limb. Initial thought was it was scrap, althought after some careful measuring I think I can save it although likely to miss weight by a bunch.
This is a custom for my nephew. And of course I had used the last of my wenge and bocote. I made a fast run 80 miles to Bell Forest who luckily had more in stock.
So starting over on Ty's bow, and will see if I can salvage this one. Its moments such as these why there is a warning sign in shop. [attachment=1][attachment=2][attachment=3]
...stood alone on a montaintop, starin out at a great divide, I could go east, I could go West, it was all up to me to decide, just then I saw a young hawk flyin and my soul began to rise......

Time for a deep trapping maybe?

Oh I've done that too while sanding the limbs on a BBO.

Now I am super cautious about keeping my left hand back away from the sanding belt..

keep going with it.
you can pike it to hit weight, so temporary nocks for now
I would rather fail at something above my means, than to succeed at something  beneath my means

Sorry to hear....  Just remember if you take more off the base than you take off the tips you will change the bending characteristics of the limbs and maybe the performance...

That is exactly why I never invested in a full size edge sander...  I use a sooped up 4" belt sander on it's side with a 11" platen...  Only sand where you are looking...  Works like a charm...
