Congratulations!
It's funny how the adrenaline thing works. Sometimes it kicks in big time. Other times it's totally controlled. Glad you were able to keep it in check this time. Enjoy your next encounter no matter how it goes.

Always good to hear of a first critter with a bow, lets me reminisce mine from a while back. Funny I can still visualize that hunt and shot from 40 years ago like it was yesterday. Congrats.
shoot straight shoot often

Congrats!  These Smoky Mnt deer don't come easy-regardless of the weapon

Bowwild

Way to hang in there!  When I started bowhunting at age 16 in 1970 you were practically a celebrity if you killed a deer with a bow!  The skills are the same now for you, 50 years later as then.  Congratulations!

Sam McMichael

Sometimes, even with a good shot, there is not much blood. Back in old days when I hunted with a rifle, I shot several with a 7mm mag and there was no blood trail. That is why it is important to make a precise shot and know how to trail the wounded deer.

After 4 years I sealed the deal on October 28th. A spike walked up the draw at 8 30 am. It was foggy I didn't see him until he was on top of me. I always get the buck fever, even on does. This time was different. No adrenaline or anxiety. There wasn't a thought in my mind. It was a very instinctive thing. His head went behind a tree at 13 yards and I drew. He stepped out broadside and I let it fly. Arrow went straight through and buried. Never found it.
I got real nervous when I saw no blood and no arrow. I followed his track back down the draw. He went 60 yards and dropped dead. No blood until he went down.
I expected to have the shakes so bad. I expected adrenalin and struggling to focus. Totally different experience. It felt very primal and instinctive. Killed him on public land in the Smokeys area.

Congrats! I'm a couple of years in and still working toward mine. Cheated the past two years and have taken a couple with a rifle—gets some meat in the freezer and keeps my young son interested. But, doing it with traditional gear is the goal.

Congratulations Nantahala that's tougher hunting than most places good job.

I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.
