4 in 1 rasp
I've been buying these 4 at a time for many years online at the zon.
They have fine flat and oval on one end, and coarse flat and oval on the other end, I would tape up the coarse end to grip on
The last time I clicked on ORDER AGAIN they were fine coarse on each end

I can't seem to find the correct (medium ?)coarseness I want.
What do you guy's use for GLASS bows?

I've never used a combo rasp, so I don't know if this would be similar. But these second cut cro-moly files work good on glass and last a long time.  I don't trust myself with anything more aggressive

I attack with a farriers rasp.  Gotta be careful though!

All of my files are catastrophes.   Chisels likewise.  I'm a serial tool abuser.  There's wanted posters on me in all the Ace Hardware stores.

Whoa, farriers rasp on glass Your a thrill seeker!

I've used a farriers rasp on glass bows lots of times... the smooth side. The Nicholson #49 and #50 too. Yeah, you kind of have to be aware of what they're capable of and how to use them to minimize risk, but they work good. Once they get worn enough, I dedicate them to use on glass, and don't use them on wood bows again.

All I use are farrier rasps.

Can't remember ever using them on gwass bows:)

I use the 49 and 50 then the 4 way fine end only after that.
I don't need a 4 in one because I only used the fine end

I got one of those 4 in 1 rasps back early in my bow making, I pitched that thing after one use. That is not the tool for me.

You guys must go thru a lot of rasps, using ones for wood and soft materials on glass

I use the farriers rasp on the riser.  I can rough out a sight window on an ASL in about 2 minutes  (I know,  not really a sight window).  I don't use it on the limbs at all.

Thing about the farriers is that the cuts are so rough you need to be be sure to leave a little meat for a finer rasp or some rough paper.

On another note, my files for nocks seem to dull quickly, I read you could sharpen them with vinegar . I tried it but left them in for a week instead of the few hours (kinda forgot). Man did that work!!  Took them out, rinsed with water , dried and shot em with wd 40 to keep from further rusting.  Seemed to stay sharp longer than new ones too...

That vinegar soak does work good. But only on oxidation, won't do anything for a file thats been dulled by hard usage.

I've done that with some files and it did improve them.

There's an outfit that sharpens files.  Roy knows the name.

I go over my files with the rubber erasers that are used to clean up sanding belts and drums .

I have a file Brush or a wire brush works good too.
