We had plans to go out to eat for Thanksgiving this year because it was only my wife, her sister, and I. COVID has the big family get together all screwed up! Anyway, a good friend of mine invited me to go hunt with him at his place. We got done eating and got back to the house, and I realized I might just have enough time to make it out there to squeeze in the hunt too.

Anyway, as soon as we got home, I threw my bow in the truck and took off. Got out there, and my buddy had texted me that he was already in a blind, and recommended another blind for me. He had hunted that blind earlier in the week and seen some axis deer there. I took about 4 practice shots, and off I went.

I sat down in the blind at 4:26pm. At 4:35pm I saw the first axis down a creekbed to my right. That deer came and drank from the creek about 100yds from me, then slipped off thru the woods.

A few minutes later, I caught movement from the same direction, and this time it was a small herd of axis deer, about a dozen or so. They came and drank at the same place the first one did.

They then started walking up the creek towards me. After a few minutes, 5 or 6 were getting close, including a big doe. Something spooked them, and all but the big doe and a yearling doe went back the way they had come from. About that time, several whitetail does also started filtering in. I was worried that the whitetails would booger things up, but they actually helped push the big axis doe into a good position at about 15yds.

I drew back, hit anchor, and released. The arrow hit the white spot on her side that I had been looking at, and it turned out to be an awesome shot!!!! Among all the things I am very thankful for, at that moment, I was thankful for a great shot!!!!!!

Anyway, here she is:

I shot her with my Primal Tech recurve, Easton Axis FMJ arrow, and 150gr German Kinetic XL broadhead. It was 4:26pm when I sat down in the blind, and 5:02pm when I shot the deer. I guess it was just meant to be because axis are normally super spooky, and it usually never happens that way!!!!!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!!!!!!

Way to go Bisch.  That's some fine dining on the ground.
I can afford to shoot most any bow I like.  And I like Primal Tech bows.

I've bought 2 in the last few months. A bison tends to fill one up real quick!!!
