It's always an adventure walking the woods up north, and seeing who else is out hunting with you when you have some fresh  snow.

Too many bows to list, and so many more I want to try!  Keep the wind in your face, and your broadheads sharp.

Best wishes... I hunted 2 seasons on crutches after knee surgeries...You will be back at it in no time..

Ron you sir are my hero!! Lol. Love the "boot knife" and getting a bow in a hospital around here would have the police there in no time. Lol.

Well, we're back home from a great camp. Being semi retired now has made for more flexibility and I was in camp for 11 days.  First, it was not the same without Ron there. Period.  This was Ron's creation almost thirty years ago. Of course we supplied him with daily updates and pictures.  This was my first camp in four years and I was so excited to be back again.  Work and watching collegiate athlete daughters compete in cross country running kept me from camp.  So I'll spill the beans and say there was only one deer on the hanging hooks outside of 'Lobo's Lair', but we had some opportunities and some knowledge gained for the future.  I know there was a congratulatory thread running for Roger Norris on his deer, but I'll try to make this the official Shrewhaven Thread of 2020.

First, how can we not mention Covid.  For myself, it meant closed college athletics seasons and no travel to watch daughters compete.  For us as camp members, we all were quarantined at camp.  While it's true someone could have brought it to camp, we're all careful on our home fronts so we felt a low risk.

The first order of business was cleaning the cabin.  For whatever reason the mice seemed to have a party.  Mouse feces can be very dangerous to your health so we donned masks and latex gloves and three of us spent five hours asnitizing the cabins. I don't believe they've ever been cleaner, but it was a necessary day out of the schedule.

Here's the gang (three of us who arrived early) after the first day spent cleaning the cabin.  There's a special feeling sitting in there at the end of the first day.

Camp arrival.......
Driving in off the last paved road I came upon this sight.

Banana Ridge is in the background (East end), which is the start of the property Ron is a partner in (440 acres).  Much of it is surrounded by state and commercial forest land, which is all available for us to hunt.  This clear cut area will grow into some fantastic cover eventually, but for this year it removed three or four historically prime hunting spots.

Pulling up to the cabin is always full of anticipation.  Our local friends who watch over the cabin had come out and mowed and removed the shutters.

Not three minutes out of the truck this little guy showed up to greet me at 8 yards

He was around camp quite often

Thanks, Ray!!! :bigsmyl:

For those who have the luxery, "Deer Camp" is a very sacred place!!!
When a member is not there, he is very much missed....

My brother in-law's father, passed on years ago...
My nephew Cody, was killed when his truck went off the road, 3 weeks after his HS graduation...
A very fine young man, and the "baby brother" of the camp was missing for many years, while being deployed in Afganistan. He returned a few years ago by the grace of God, unscathed and with a Bronze Star on his chest.

We drink a toast to those not there, and the stories told help ease their absense.

A Deer Camp, is more than a cabin or camp... It's a Family   :archer: :archer: :campfire: :archer: :archer:

So, as always we have great food and dinner is an event for sharing the day's stories.

We have a rotisserie and cooking tent that's the best.

Was a member of a camp in the Adirondacks of NY for over 45 years. Lots of good memories of times gone by !! Gave up my membership when I moved south !! If you are a member of a deer camp cherish the time, it can be gone in the blink of an eye !!! Shrew Haven is really cool
