Back when I built mine, the lathe didn't solve it cause I had issue aligning the cylinder on the frame. What worked for me was to lay sand paper on the bottom board and rectify the cylinder in his final position on the frame

First limb off the form. Glue lines looking good.

How long is that bow going to be Z  ?

That is a beautiful circular tiller  No wasted limb wood on that one!

Thanks Flem, it took me a bit to work out how to tiller it, as this is the first bendy handle I've done. I went with just slightly stiff tips so I guess it's really very slightly elliptical.

Great tiller on a nice ash bow. Ash is one of those bow woods I don't have luck with. Everyone I've made fretted but I never heat treated an ash bow either. Well done on this ash bow.   :notworthy:

Thanks Pat, so far no fretting after a couple of hundred shots..... I was a little afraid it would and found a few little marks when tillering but discovered it was actually my scraper that was making the marks - with a file/rasp they disappeared and never came back

Nice work Flyonline!

Thanks, this is the first bow I'm happy with the tiller.

How wide is it?

Thanks Mark, it's a tickle over 1.25" wide x .75" at the handle tapering straight to 5/8 x .5 at the tips. I plan on doing something like a pyramid next time, nice 'n' wide

Guess that depends on which part of the ellipse you are looking at :saywhat:

Yeah, a true cylinder is only one part of the alignment. I am going to have to shim the bottom board a touch to get it perfect with the drum surface, but that isn't too major of a problem.

Those are wicked hooks on your new limbs, I look forward to seeing how it all looks and bends when complete.

Well, my initial plan was to do a 60". But I noticed last night that I screwed up the wedges length/position. So my current plan is to build it as a 64", run some test and then drill holes to make 60".
It's part of prototyping. No mistake. All part of the learning curve

WoW, Z....   Looks extreme...  What is the radius near the tip??

ztontonz

Hey Max how many inch past the hook did you cut your nocks? 2"?
I was thinking of making 2 sets of grooves for test purposes

1-1/2", I think longer could be better

I want to see the string angle at full draw, looks like your limb is short, it might make it open up NICE

That would be close 1.75" sir

Glued up another limb. Shaped pads and back of the handle.
