Hello,

I own a very nice 1959 Bear Grizzly recurve bow AMO 62" at 40 pounds.  For any of you that own a 59 Bear Grizzly, what brace height would you recommend for this bow?  Thank you.

John

According to the '59 catalog, between 6 1/2" and 7 1/2".

On all my grizzly's I've always preferred 8 1/4- 8 1/2

Hi Charlie,

My 59 Grizzly is currently at 8 1/4".  I saw from the previous reply from the 59 Bear Catalog it should be 6 1/2" to 7 1/2".  I was wondering if my brace height was too high and was concerned that it would cause problems for my bow.  I have a 1962 Bear Grizzly also.  Should I keep that between 8 1/4" to 8 1/2"?  What is the reason for the longer brace height?  Thank you very much for your reply.

For me its personal preference and what I find shoots the best. 7 inches or below I tend to hit my forearm and get uneven wear on the fletching.  I'm a sucker for old grizzly bows and have owned most years. All for me have performed well at the 8 1/4 to 8 1/2 brace.

Try it if you don't like it you can move it back.  You can also search the forum, this question has been asked before.  You will be able to see other opinions on it.

Good luck.  Just remember the tinkering is half the fun.

The string that cam with my first one braced it at about 9"!!. Clearly it was the wrong string. I think I braced them at 7 1/4 when I got the right string.

Have a Big River clone of '59 that likes 7 5/8" to throat of grip.

Mine is currently at 8" and it does shoot very well.  Thank you all for your responses!
