Nessmuk...very old style knife from around 1850 designed by George Washington Sears AKA Nessmuk, man of the wilderness.  Interesting guy kinda like Thoreau...look him up on Google.  Anyway I wanted to forge one....deer antler stained & filed, 1084 steel thin & wide blade, hand sanded, and OAL 10 inches.

Do you have his book...Woodcraft and Camping written in 1884 and still in print today.  I just purchased it from Amazon for like $9.  The guy fascinates me as he was a minimalist on his camping treks. I now love the feel of the knife even though it's my rendition of his knife.

tippit, no, I don't. I have read it though. He is one of the reasons I have always wanted to hunt the Great North Woods. I did finally hunt northern Maine. I took a small black bear with my longbow last year. I'll be hunting Maine again this year. I'll be in camp with the guys from Black Widow Bows.

his book is a great read I got it to learn the secrets of his nessmuk design . not a lot of info yet a good story then an entire chapter on coffee! I do like coffee

Here's mine I bought it from an old buckskinner on line years ago. It has very old stag handle slabs also very old leather sinew stiched. It has a very thin blade and sharp enough to split a whisker. I keep it in my bag for when I need such a knife
