I see that Cook Woods have a sale on Argentine Osage(Maclura tinctoria) boards.
Do any of you know how this species compare to the Osage(Maclura Pomifera) that grow in North America?
I think Osage is the best bow wood.

I don't know how it compares with North American osage but it is bow wood. There was a build along where Argentine osage was used to make a bamboo backed osage bow.

Bue, I used 2 strips of Argentine osage to replace the belly of a bow I made a few years ago that fretted(the bow) badly. I ground the belly flat below the frets and glued on the Argentine osage and retillered. As far as I could tell there wasn't much difference although the color was slightly different. This was on a 60" static recurve for a 26" draw.

Mark, I got the slats I used from David Knight. That's impossible these days since David passed a few years ago. James Parker may know where to get Argentine osage.
