Congratulations Shrew Shooters!!!

Since 2003 I've kept the same avatar on my Tradgang bio. My Super Shrew Samurai with my first ever turkey harvest.  It was a special day in my bow hunting career.  Turkey hunting has certainly changed with impressive popup blinds, lifelike decoys and great call options 20 years later, but the thrill of bagging a gobbler after four months of no big game hunting is usually the prescription to lift oneself.

So does your friend that sent the pics go by Ron?

Greg Nicolaou. Camp chef at Shrewhaven Lodge.  He retired now but back in the 70's he trained at the CIA. (Culinary Institute of America's).  We've been sharing bow camp with Ron LaClair since the early 1990's

I have an older 58" Super Shrew Delux, the limbs seem alot thicker than those on the new model...the latter look a little on the 'whippy' side.

Tony, I have a 58" Super Shrew Samurai built by original Super Shrew bowyer John McCullough.  I think John built the finest Super Shrew-until I shot this new Classic Hunter II. It's quiet, quick and super smooth with no hand shock.  Workmanship is fantastic. Really an outstanding little gem

Ray, is his green glass transparent allowing veneer to show through? Never seen that before. It's very nice.

I'm strongly considering ordering the Classic Hunter next week . What length do you recommend for my draw of 28 1/2 ? I mostly shoot 3d and a little hunting from a blind and tree stand .

Yes, green glass is slightly transparent so you can see some of grain configuration.

Any of Classic Hunter II shows a draw force curve that is smooth out to at least 29", so no stacking at 28.5.  At 28.5 I would personally probably look at 54" model.  If you really concentrate more on 3D, the 56" would be great but still give you a fairly compact bow for tree stand and ground blind spots. So my personal recommendation would be 54 or 56".  I'm sure Ron can also give you his thoughts.

Ray, my 58" SS Deluxe 'Redliner' was also made by John M. and despite owning many great bows over the years (including several other Shrews) it has been my #1 hunting bow...it's length and grip shape are hard to beat for hunting in tight quarters/thick cover (Maine and Michigan are similar in that regard).  A great treestand and turkey blind bow.  But, mine is feeling a little heavy in my old age so stays on the rack more in favor of lighter bows.  I may decide to have it's weight reduced by 4-5 pounds.  Do you know which bowyer would make the most sense for doing Shrew weight reductions?

BTW, I like Henry's approach to his potential customers...seems like a friendly blue-collar type guy whose also a good businessman, AND he stands by his product (the keys to success).  Rare qualities these days.

Tony,  I had my Samurai done years ago by a bowyer in Texas, Jeff Massie,  who was a sponsor here years ago when he was in business.  He took 6 pounds off (originally 61@27), but I think each bow is different depending on what thickness combinations were originally used.  I always loved those gray/black Super Shrews with the red line lamination. Really sharp combo.  My samurai is the bow in my Avitar

Thanks Ray, my Redliner isn't the black/white combo (but I did have a B/W SSD in the past and your're right they're very sharp-looking bows; mine was too heavy or I'd have kept it).  I'll look around for someone that does Shrew reductions, no real hurry on it.  I asked Ron about it awhile back via email but didn't get a response, I suspect he's out of that biz now.

The Bow Hospital (sponsors here) does refinishing and reductions.  Don't know how much experience with Super Shrews.  With Ron having Shrew Bows produced over seas, doing maintenance is not likely.

Thanks for the reply Ray ! That was my reply to Henry on Facebook a few hours after I asked the question here . He answered in like 5 mins ! Now that's customer service and it was late in the evening when I sent the PM ! A new improved Shrew with 30 year warranty and great customer service will be hard to pass up .

Henry is a great guy and very passionate about traditional archery.  He's a great choice to produce the Super Shrew line.
