I've had the itch to go back to a glove from a tab for awhile now, something about if I just found myself missing while shooting. So today I dug out my old Damascus glove and started shooting. I though I caught some of my arrows kicking out pretty badly so I picked up a bare shaft and oh boy was it awful. The arrow kicked out high then jolted right and hit the ground about 3 feet in front of the target. I put the tab back on and shot a group followed by the bare shaft and it smashed straight in to the fletched group as straight and accurate as can be. I assume it's my release but I didn't expect such a huge difference. Guess I'll be sticking to my tab for now.

Interesting.... let us know if you figure out why.

In my limited experience I have found that tab and glove do have a different "feel" for the release.  As we speak I am kinda leaning towards the tab as being smoother "for me'.

I shot a glove for more than 40 years and can't say they ever caused arrow flight problems.  When I was shooting a glove, I tried many times to shoot a tab and just couldn't get comfortable with one. Then, a while back, I tried a Black Widow tab, and it worked perfectly.  Now I shoot a number of different tabs. A tab gives me a better feel for the string, and I can get my fingers and the string closer to my face, which contribute to a cleaner, better release for me. However, a glove stays put on my fingers and is faster to use so I often use a glove for hunting.

I've never found a glove or tab to be a 'release aid'. They were designed to be finger/tendon protection.  I prefer a glove because I would never be able to keep up with a tab.

Also, there have been  times when I could not find, or forgot my glove when hunting. Best of my recollection, I've killed 3 hogs and one deer bare finger. No big deal glove or no glove....

I've been shooting a lot of bare recently. My gloves worn out and I just havent replaced it. Normally the glove just helps me keep my fingers warm anyway

I'd like to try a different glove for the sake of experimentation but don't want to waste the money haha. Same results today though, terrible flight with the old Damascus, great flight with the Widow tab.

I'd be careful shooting barehanded too much, you'll give yourself nerve damage and lose feeling in the tips!

Yeah. Only been numb once when I was doing several hundred arrows a day with a glove. Stopped till I had my feeling back. Good advice though just gave that to a friend that was numb with a glove. He doesn't listen much though.

Tsriberio...I'm just talking about when I leave my glove at home and am hunting.  I don't worry one shot on game as far as accuracy, nor damage, and I shoot 60 to 70#bows.  I know all about tendon damage. I'm 55 and have been shooting since I wa 8.

All I was saying is that gloves and tabs are not release aid's, they are for finger and tendon protection.  Maybe you missed that?

I think he was referring to my post. My glove is worn and I've been shooting bare a lot lately. But not a high arrow count and havent been bothering to glove up.  I am not over doing it though.

Last year was my first full year with trad (LB), and I used a Fred Eichler cordovan tab. Getting ready to order a glove, one from American Leather (Bigshot), heard nothing but great things, just trying to decide on Elk, Buffalo or Kangaroo
leather.

I kept losing my tabs so I went to the glove and stayed with them .

Glove for a very long time. Now widow tab. Also, I can wear gloves with a tab and I get cold fingers so it's helpful.

I wear gloves with a glove....just cut the fingers right behind the 2nd knuckle.

My wife is a knitter so she knit me a set of gloves that work with my archery glove

I bought an American Leathers Buffalo, with the nylon pads, in 2009 and it is just starting to show wear on the middle stall.  I thought it was an insane amount of money for an archery glove when I bought it..... turns out it has been less than $7 a year to use the best glove made....  you will thank yourself every time you use it....

Terry's got it right, up here in the great white north, I have three different weight thicknesses of gloves with cut off fingers to use with a finger glove depending on how cold it is. Have tried a tab but not comfortable with one.
