Nock fit

Sure it has been asked here before, but how critical is nock fit, overly tight versus overly loose? And is the firm tap should set it free the norm to use?

I think most folks like the nocks to be just tight enough to hold the arrow on the string when they hang their bows while hunting. I prefer a loose fit. I also nock over the nock point so needless to say I don't hang my bow when hunting. I lay it across my lap with my bow hand on the handle and string hand on the string holding my arrow in place. It's all a personal preference.

I think just as important as overall nock fit is having a consistent nock fit. You don't want some of them to be tight and some of them to be loose.

I nock above (split finger) and want the arrow nock tight enough so it doesn't slide up or down under my finger when grabbing the string. For me, better a bit tight than abit loose. Not a fan of the "gentle tap test" for hunting arrows.

I always set my nock fit to where it is a little more than the tap to drop. I don't want them so loose that they will accidently fall from the string, but not so tight that they actually won't slide up and down when you push down on the arrow.

I use to agree with you but experimenting with different strings with various serving size makes me agree with my friend Rick Barbee and Big Jim. The noise factor alone makes all the difference when hunting.

Since I shoot 3 under I prefer a tighter nock fit than just a "tap" fit. If its too loose it tends to sometimes pull off the string during a draw with just the normal shaft friction........... Most unis are too tight (3D super nocks just right) and bohning classics glue on work best for me...............YMMV

You definitely do not want them too tight... There is no reason for an arrow to try to hang on to the string for dear life as it's trying to leave the bow...... This also can cause erratic Arrow flight and Sporadic In accuracies...... And also loss of speed.

I like them exactly like Big Jim was talking about. It's hard to get them just like that for me though.

I like them snug but not really tight. I keep my bow in my hand at all times, so hanging it up is not a factor. I have had arrows come off the string when the fit was too loose, which has cost me a couple of shot opportunities.
