Anybody besides me still have the first bow they made? I have the first laminated and selfbow I made.
The recurve was made in 1974 from a kit. I think it was from Kittredge's Bow Hut, but can't say for sure.
I was lamenting the day that I won't be able to pull it (58lbs) and thinking who to give it to.

If you fear failure, you will never try ! But never except it!!

Thats funny Ritchie! My first self bow is Hickory also, 65#. I like my shoulders functioning, way too much to try pulling it :biglaugh:

The tiller is so poor but both limbs are even on that one, all I had was a copy of PA magazine and a stanley cheese grater type plan ,I didnt even know you needed fades but that bow is still shootable my dentist would love me to shoot it , rattles your teeth every shot , I actually hunted one season with that bow and makes me smile every time I hold it :bigsmyl:

I still have my first...

A Torges style Osage with a deer rawhide backing. I think it pulled around 55#. It started to develop a hinge in the limb (I think I had to work around a knot in that spot) so I retired it before it failed. I had originally dyed it with Fiebings Forest Green and it came out BRIGHT! It eventually faded to a dark green. I hunted with it for 5 or 6 years and killed deer, turkeys and a lot of small game with it.

I will pull it off the wall and try to get a photo.

In a moment of decision the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing.

Nice bow Sam! But that quiver is a standout. Looks like exceptional lacing. You make that one?

ztontonz

Thanks
Yes, I made the quiver as well. I like the way it looks too. But there's nothing exceptional about it

Sam that quiver is out standing  I dont have great pics but here is my first glass bow its a 64" KM , modified D/R, sweet shooting bow !

I still have my first successful bow.  It's the one on the right here. #2 and #3 are in there too.

I also have my first sinew bow, which was built back in 1999 with the help of a lot of folks on the Bowsite's Leather Wall.  My first buildalong: http://web.archive.org/web/20070630141524/http://residents.bowhunting.net/sticknstring/sinew.html
