Would you say an ethics archery outsert system is more or less strong than an HIT insert with a 1" aluminum footing?

Now this is a loaded question. I've never shot either really but I'm moving in one of these directions. Outserts are inherently easy to bend since they stick out front of the arrow so even though the ethics is obviously 'stronger' that may not necessarily mean it resists arrow damage any better. Alternatively, the HIT answer is pretty long probably more comparative to a centerpin then a regular insert so that helps and it has a outside footer as well. Maybe the materials are or are not as strong I don't know, but it seems like the mechanical advantage of the arrow would be better. All this to say in my mind I really I'm not sure if the ethics would actually be stronger. Some people just really don't want to deal with gluing on an aluminum footing. If it's pretty much just a strong I'll do that all day long. there is something beautifully simple about an hit insert in a 1-inch piece of aluminum tubing.

What do you guys know about this?

i use axis shafts and glue on a footing. tough as nails!

Ironwill hit inset with iron will impact collar

I'm happy with the HIT inserts and aluminum footing...

I use JB Weld with 1-3/16" footings

I've copied a few more for repairs. When you do it for real, does a 1" footing increase your spine ?

It likely won't make too much difference. Small footings will add 10-15 grains to the front pending size which may weaken the arrow a fuzz. The footing is installed over the insert/rigid part of the arrow and unless you extend past the insert you shouldn't see a stiffening of the arrow. I always tune with everything in place to be certain but I bet it's a minimal contributor...

a footing that extends past the rear of the insert will stiffen spine. in fact it is a handy option for tuning without shortening the overall shaft.

Isn't the goal of footing the arrow to have the footing extend past the insert? Or has that been debunked?

I dunno.  I've never found it necessary to foot Axis shafts.  Yeah, I mushroom the front end occasionally on a real solid hit on a stump or other very hard, immovable object, but I've never had a failure on game.  But, whatever floats your boat.   

I shoot Axis 500s and was using the cut 1916 footing but I really like the Ballistic Collar that works really well.
