My buddy's schedule opened up enough to allow me a little time to use his cabinet saw. I ran over and got some cuts done on the wood. I cut the Ipe 1.375"w x .625" tall. I also found a piece of walnut for the handle that I cut to 1.375" as well.
I also have a piece of walnut that I will use as a tri-lam.
The 'boo is from a local yard. I bought 3 pieces. One piece is too narrow. The second piece I screwed up while trimming the height on the bandsaw. The third...  I think I did pretty well.

Now to find a friend with a belt sander...

You can thin the boo with a hand plane if you can't find a sander. That's how I made my first boo backed bow.

I thinned it quite a bit with the band saw.  My buddy did offer a plane for me to use.  I may take him up on it. 

Hope it turns out as nice as this one. 60" and 45# with bone nocked bamboo arrow with a stone head.

Can't tell from the pic if the Boo is glued to the Ipe? Be sure to keep us posted on your progress, maybe with some bigger pics too! Everybody loves pictures.
Speaking of pictures, do you have a close up picture of the Bow handle Will?

Nothing is currently glued together, it's all just stacked up.
Well, minus the piece I'll use for the tri-lam. That is currently being glued together. I went with some thin pieces of Ipe that I had left from trimming. I'm gonna let them cure overnight. Will hopefully get a little more done tonight but no promises.

My handle piece is 12".  Should I leave it there or cut it to 10"?

ETA: 11" it is.

Tried to cut the tapers tonight on the belly.  I screwed it up.  That piece is set aside and I've moved onto the next one.  I'll give it a whirl in better light and minus an "Old Fashioned" or so.  Might gonna come out a bit better.   

I have my second attempt all cut to length and ready to go. 

Handle has the corners tapered.  I'll round them out after glue up with a rasp or on a sander if I can grab one. 

I also cut some nock reinforcements out of some Walnut and G-10.  I'll scuff the G-10 up in preparation for glue and get the Walnut ready to go as well.  I may try and taper it a bit to give myself a head start.  We'll see.

Looks like you are well on your way. Looking forward to seeing the finished bow.

Thanks.  At a stopping point as work has finally picked up a bit and I am unsure about either buying a belt sander or joining a "maker space" to finish the bow.  I'm very tempted to just grab a belt sander but the worker space is appealing as I won't need to store anything. 

This is what I came up with for a "form".
I'm gonna wrap it in inner tube. I'll also grab some spring clamps as well.

I just need to borrow a belt sander...

You don't glue the handle on at the same time the lams are glued up.

Glue the lams first, let that dry for a day,  then glue on the riser block.

I can do that. Jus wondering why? I've seen it done both ways. Want to know your reasoning for my own edification.

The pic is just showing the shape. It's a 1/8" piece from when i cut the Ipe. Same length.

Gluing the bow up with the riser block on will make the center of the bow flat because the riser block will hold it flat.

The glue joint is what holds these bows in their respective form shape.

Glass bows are glued all together because the riser and form are pre-shaped before glue up.

Wood bows are different. When you would take that bow out of the form, it's going to look weird.

Here is my bow out of the form. Notice the curve in the riser section.

I trace that curve onto my riser block, then cut the riser block to the line and then glue the riser onto the bow blank.



Below is a riser blocked shaped and glued on the blank.
