Monterey,
I like that riser
what wood did you use?

That's the bow I'm copying.  It's a vintage Damon Howatt Monterey that suffered a split limb tip.   It's just in the  picture to compare to the template made to copy the bow.

I don't know what the wood is.

Flem...  Cool tools don't count if you are screwing up...  It's the end of the day...  I am tired and hungry...  I am gonna cut these lams to size while there is light and then glue them up after dinner...  After cutting my hyper lams I noticed that one lam was flipped the other way... After lots and lots of choice words I got to thinking...  I really did not feel like making another set of lams...  I was lucky enough that I had a little over a 1/4" to spare...  So I super glued the butt of one lam back on reinforced it with some paper and  trimmed to size...  Disaster averted...   :goldtooth:

That part gets cut off...  I just needed the full length for glue-up...  But I have actually made paper tip wedges before...

Went crazy with my drum sander today,
I think the Nor-Easter that headed our way messed my thinking up a wee bit :)
poor limb pads ended up at 3.5 long,,for some dang reason I had a mark there
and DU ,,, sanded right up to the mark,,,glue is my friend,,,repeat,, glue is my friend,
,
Now Ive got to mess around with that dang pesky-EVIL-Black-Palm
and fix the mess I've made,
I need a nap,

later all
cheers

Did you cut the paper template for the riser from the plans kennym sent you?
Looks kind of thin back to belly
I would rather fail at something above my means, than to succeed at something  beneath my means

wanted a drum sander, but I'm too cheap to buy one,
and the one i have on my drill press is a small cheap one, don't like it,
so,
spent the morning making a Jig, for my 4" belt and disk sander,
I now have a 1/2 drum sander all plum and square  wood i used is laminated maple shelving I had laying around,
so its nice and flat, drilled a bunch of holes where the motor sits on the shelving, so it gets air flow

Nice Mod...  Ditch that motor and put a real motor on there...  That one might work for sanding your nails though...

Flem

I can't figure out how that's going to function as a drum sander? Looks like a belt sander on edge.
You are not the only cheap one here!

Shredd, congratulations! 1000 posts :clapper:  You just beat me to it.

oldfartfarmer

sanded and worked with my Black-EVIL-Palm
made a BIG ooOPS and even with my notes i messed up
got lucky and had enough room to reverse the pattern,  my last long chunk of black palm,, so I got real lucky it fit reversed
,
cheers,
John
