Absolutely phenomenal video!  Congratulations on a wonderful elk!

I have a question for you experienced elk hunters.  Why such large back-packs?  What are you carrying that takes that much space and couldn't be left in camp with the donkeys (o.k. llamas)? I have been using a small day pack that holds enough water for the day, lunch, a wind breaker shell and a few other things.  (I am hunting with a guide and outfitter in Big Timber)  Am I kidding myself?

I would be grateful for any insight you can provide.

Thanks,

JMC

An elk hunter needs a heavy duty pack that is capable of hauling one boned-out elk quarter at a time. If your outfitter has pack horses that he can get to the kill site to haul your meat then you're in luck and won't need such a large pack. Plan for the unexpected and hope for the best. Good luck to you and have fun.

Just watched it again, and won't be my last I think.  That was simply great!

Great hunt, bull and video South!! Also that bull on the side hill was a giant! Makes it even harder to concentrate on work while waiting for Sept 1!

I've heard stories about close encounters like this but they are a little hard to believe.  After seeing this I now understand that it can and does happen.  I can't imagine where his heart was when the elk bugled that close.
