One month to elk season who go and what do you carry?
I hope to be able to hunt most of the season, my prey way is to backpack but I like to have at least a buddy for me 2-3 is the perfect number. Otherwise I set a main camp. My bow will be a TD around 57-60 with a 600-650 grain arrow tipped by a 250-300 single bevel

well this years going to be a bit different than my norm...i wont be packing in like i normally do ya see
i lost one of my huntin partners last fall...my 20 year old grandson died when he rolled his truck on the
day he was suppose to come in to camp...my son and grand daughters just cant bring themselves to do it
with out him...

so i guess ill be hunting from a road side camp by myself for the most part...the good news is i have a soon to
be 10 year old grandson that is frothing at the bit to hunt so i guess ill start a new tradition.

i got a new curve this summer so maybe ill use it with some carbon arrows instead of wood...got 200gn up front and all seems well at this point

hope everyone has a good season and looking forward to some pics and stories this fall.

I drew a limited entry Colorado unit for Elk, Mule Deer and will buy a bear tag.  I will be spending the last 15 days of  September out there.  As far as a bow goes, I had shoulder surgery this spring, as a result, the bow is much lighter than I am used to hunting with.  Tribe riser with Dryads top ACS longbow limbs.  It comes in at 50 lbs at my extra-long draw length.  I've had a few setbacks on the road to recovery but still can pull a bow.  I am shooting about 10 arrows a night before my shoulder tells me to stop.  Arrows are much lighter spine than I would have ever dreamed of.  They are coming in at a 610 including a 200 grain 3 blade VPA.  I have rented a cabin to act as a base camp and will be mobile and travel throughout the unit.  I've been walking the hills around SE Ohio with a 55 lb pack to get my legs ready.  I hope to have a run-in with a covey of Grouse also.

Durp, your story stuck deep in my heart.  My grandkids are primary hunting partners I can't imagine the pain you endured at the loss of your grandson.

I wish you success in bringing the ten year old along.

My elk season will be the usual mostly day hunts near home.   Maybe a 3 day pack in too.  Using my own build ASL woodies and grizzly broadheads.

2nd season New Mexico public land. Toelke Chinook Classic, 55@27 with Simmons 190 gr. interceptor up front. 530gr total arrow weight.

Best of Luck To All!

I'm headed back out to Big Timber, MT to hunt with Absaroka-Beartooth Outfitters.  I had a great time last year.  They have always treated me super good.  I got both knee joints replaced in the spring of '18 and was able to get close enough for had 3 close encounters but no shot opportunity last year.  This year I am in better shape and counting the days.

I am shooting a Fox Archery High Sierra 56" recurve, 64# @ 29 inches.  I have a great set of cedar shafts from All Wood Arrows that come in at 640 grains with the 150 gr. Bruin 2-blade heads.  I'm hitting 5 inch 15-arrow groups at 25 yards and power-walking 2 miles each evening with 10 lb. dumbbells in each hand.  Getting Ready!

Going back to CO for a 10 day wilderness hunt with 3 other  friends. Going to use a longbow I just built with Zwickey 4 blade no mercy.

This will be the first year since my first resident season in 07 that I won't elk hunt. I drew a cow moose tag. Hope to get that knocked out then I'm taking a little trip back to my hometown area in Texas to see some family friends before they are gone!

Hello Felix.  I will be hunting with my Saluki Ibex, 59# @ 28" 250 gr. Brown Bear 2-blade total arrow weight 628gr.  This is the bow I killed my first CO archery bull with, serious mojo here.  I have a new Nemo tent and ultra light bag.  Should get some good practice in opening weekend of archery deer season, we will be at 8500 or so looking at all the elk we can not shoot while chasing mulies and bear.

Going to New Mexico unit 52 into an outfitted drop camp, unguided (first time with any outfitter for elk). Will bring my old faithful 60# osage selfbow "lightning crow" with 680 grain surewood douglas fir arrows and various broadheads (grizzly kodaik, magnus II, ACE standards). Will also have along my Black Widow PLX takedown 57# with 570 grain easton FMJs and simmons safari broadheads. Funny thing is I shoot the selfbow better and have more confidence with it, but the PLX is much less painful to shoot with chronic  "tennis Elbow".  More than good enough with either out to full ethical range.

Good luck all!
