Gday guys,

Well I was lucky enough to get a really good deal on 4 dozen high spined POC shafts a while back and I am wanting to barrel taper them somehow.

I already have a bench sander and wheel combo and I was looking at using that along with the Tim's Taper Tool that way I can also do the nock and point tapers. Has anyone used one of these before? I have hand tapered shafts before but would rather the sanding option as it's quicker.

When I mean barrel taper, and as these shafts are already 23/64, I'm aiming to have them at 5/16 at the nock end and 11/32 and the point end.

I wonder how much weight/grains you can take off with a barrel taper.

I think one of the original reasons for barrel tapering was to reduce the physical weight without reducing the spine weight. That's how flight shooters and target shooters achieved that goal.

Al I have a Tim's Taper Tool and love it. I have been using it for more than 10 years. I just do nock and point tapers and the ten inch rear taper on 11/32" shafts. I buy a hundred shafts at a time and put the nock taper and rear ten inch taper on them. I then spine, weigh, and sort them. I have found the rear 10" taper will change the spine zero to two pounds. As for weight change I don't know as I have never weighed them before tapering.
