Whenever I go anywhere I am always looking at trees with larceny in mind. I travel with Audubon field guide to North American trees. Sometimes I am rubbernecking so bad I have almost rear ended cars. I'm surprised nobody has called the cops on me as I'm standing in their front yards calculating how much lumber I can get out of their landscaping. I can't help but think I am not the only one ;)

I know where every Osage tree is in SW Pa:)

I used to be like you and I have access  to hundreds of acres to hunt trees but over time with all the work and time and drying and debarking milling etc. I got lazy so now all I cut is osage or parts of a tree I could make excuses but the truth is the older I get the more lazy I am to cutting trees  :biglaugh:
If you fear failure, you will never try ! But never except it!!

It's a sickness. I have it too. I
Can't pass a nice looking tree without wondering what it looks like on the inside. Especially the gnarly ones. :goldtooth:

I have got a little better over the years, I used to carry wood for miles out of the mountains.
Can't endure that kind of suffer fest these days :saywhat:

Of course as soon as I posted about not hauling trees out of the woods, I got to thinking about doing just that :banghead:
Did not want you guys to think I was some kind of wussy boy.
Humped this chunk about 3.5mi out of the mountains. Must have switched shoulders about 50 times. Feeling it today

Those Yew logs are heavy, I have had sore shoulders many times myself and they often grow in remote hard to get to places. Nice catch. :)

I was lucky with these two very nice Ash trees, I could back my car right up to the spot.

That's impressive sir.  I carried some really heavy live oak, but maybe 1/4 a mile on flat ground.  And I thought that was bad.
Life is too short to use marginal bow wood

BMorv

I don't think ash gets much better than that Bue

Thats some clean Ash Bue. I've got some Oregon Ash I carried a couple of miles.
I think I would have made a good Penitente.
Roy, I did carry that sucker with one hand......one at a time that is:bigsmyl:
I'm taking orders for straw skirts, if anybody wants one for summer. Not sure how they would look with Pink Chaps :goldtooth:

Flem

Bue, did you split that Ash or rip it on your bandsaw?

Buemaker

I split it, came apart very easy. I usually cut Ash when the sap goes, then bark comes off very easy and there is a full ring of summer growth from last year. Have a perfect back then. I will take it to smaller sections on the bandsaw.

Roy from Pa

Very nice, Bue.

Clem, it didn't happen wifout pichers.
