I got this fancy smacy drill jig a few years back. I have not been happy with the way it worked and hard to clamp the parts right. Sooo I modified it. Using one of the drill blocks and bolting it down to be able to drill from both sides keeping the same side down. then if the width is off a bit it is all to one side and can be trued up.

Mike, with that jig do you have get pretty exact on width? or do you drill it then run it through the drum until it's even? I never seem to get my width exactly the same each time, that's part of why I keep hanging in with the self-centering. That and I be broke folk and can't afford to have one of those made.
Skeater who?

Crooked Stic

Yes my curve limbs are 1.625 and longbow 1.375. The block can be fliped depending on curve or longbow. I have a plywood sled for the limbs and run them thru the drum sander to width. Needs to be within a few thousands. If you drill the holes same side down on the riser (drill thru each side of the block) and orient the limbs the same then all the excess will be up and can be trued up.

Finally got home and all my parts had arrived, so I put together my new tension rod assembly. Very happy :bigsmyl:

Smooth and powerful. Roy suggested I silver braze the handle nut to the rod. Good advice, it might as well be welded on. I've got a spare heavy duty spring if anybody needs one.
