I recently bought a V700 Pelican case. It's a great case but bigger than I'd like and I think bigger than what the airlines will allow without charging extra. I have a 3 piece takedown recurve. Any recommendations?

My take-downs go in a Safari-Tuff case and are packed in my regular luggage.

I've been happy with the 3rivers roll up case and that goes in my luggage.
The 3rivers hard case is also good and fits about 12 arrows from what I can remember.
I've heard good things about safari tuff as well.

I have a Safari Tuff and it's a very good soft side case with room for at least two sets of limbs. I recently picked up a Clam ice fishing rod hard case I was going to use for short Crappie-dock rods or fly rods but it was too short. It works great for bows though! I can fit two risers and three sets of limbs in it and they stay snug. The hard sides are sturdy. It looks like this...

... but with bows in it, not fishing rods. The dividers are velcro-ed and can be moved around.

I think if you look around you can find it for forty or fifty bucks. It even has a little spot for a business card size name tag. If this particular one won't work, I imagine other ice rod size cases might.

I, bought a hard sided golf travel case. haven't had a chance to use it yet.

Safari tuff soft case user also. My arrows go in a Lakewood arrow case. I do have a SKB armored case as well but I rarely use it.

I cut a Pelican iM3100 for mine to hold all of my essentials for travel. The foam underneath the arm guard and binoculars is cut to hold my concealed carry handgun and my S&W 44 magnum for backup when pursuing dangerous game. Since I have to check a gun anyway and knives (or Broadheads for that matter) are also restricted it just made sense to me to put it all together and in a well protected case. I chose the iM3100 because it was the smallest TSA approved case that would fit it all while allowing me to leave my broadheads screwed into my arrows and leave arrows in my quiver.

I've used a take-down shotgun case without any issues. If your arrows aren't too long they can fit in this case as well.

My go to bow is a three piece takedown.  It goes in a padded soft case which is pretty small.  I just put it inside a suitcase and have never had any issues with it.

I pack two takedowns  within a duffle bag. My arrows are packed within a Safari Tuff quiver within the duffle.

I do not wish to draw attention that I am hunting.

Even one of major sellers of traditional bow cases does the same.

I used an SKB gun case for my trip to Africa.  Was able to install 4 TSA locks on it.  However, keep in mind, what ever you use IF it looks like a gun case - Tape a sign on the outside of the case on 2 sides "NO FIREARMS - ARCHERY EQUIPMENT".  This will save you a lot of hassle.  I never had any problems with the sign on the case.  The only place that wanted to check inside was in NY on my return trip.  The NY police wanted to see inside, so I opened it.  They were very nice, then wanted to hear my story of bowhunting in Namibia.  A great group of guys.

I am looking at the issue of suitcase/duffel size for my pending Africa trip.  Oversized seems to start at 62 or 63 inches and a number of cases that are 30-32" are just an inch or so above that. I am interested because my arrow case and my takedown will not work in the 28" case that I have now.  This was never a problem in the past because I would take a one piece longbow case with an attached arrow case that went as free sporting goods luggage.  I  AM NOT WORRIED ABOUT WEIGHT, as I have a 70#/suitcase limit.
What can you all tell me about whether I should worry about an oversize suitcase hassle if the case is an inch or two above posted size limit?  I have seen enormous suitcases any number of times in the airport and can't remember anyone being charged for it.

Also, how safe do you feel as far as packing a takedown bow in a soft sided duffel (roller, so rigid bottom)

My case (Storm iM3100)  as shown has full length gold tips with Grizzly heads in a Thunderhorn quiver. It's just long enough to fit them. The quiver and nocks don't bang the ends of the case because the bow attachment straps and pads are inserted into some custom fit holes in the middle layer of foam.

I think the next largest case if you wanted more length than that would be the Pelican 1720

I haven't taken this one on a plane yet but it doesn't exceed weight limits and it's pretty dang small. To be honest though I wouldn't mind being charged if that's what it took. I typically travel when a concealed carry handgun which requires TSA anyway. Sometimes I hunt with a backup .44 mag which would require TSA. TSA checked bags get the best security and handling in the airport anyway and to protect all my other stuff is worth it to me.

Not sure what all you're wanting to case..... But I have 2 polar coolers made by Coleman that have more frequent flyer miles than most people.

Thanks but I am looking for a suitcase type item to put clothing and all the other travel stuff AND a takedown bow and arrows.  BTW the measurements of the Storm come to 56.5 so that it would be considered a normal size case.
