Dannon

Well I ran into a little problem this morning. Glued a limb up last night for my victims bow and pulled it out of the oven this morning. Took it out of the form and cleaned the edges up and started removing the tape. The back of the the limb looked really good. Loved the look of the veneers I got from Kenny. Turned the limbbober and started to peel the tape from the belly of the limb and noticed immediately something didn't look right.  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: I flipped the veneer and the lam and didn't realize it! No matter how many times I went over in my head how to lay up this limb I still screwed it up.

That sucks Dannon, sorry to hear it. That is a cool looking veneer, what is it?
Skeater who?

Roy from Pa

Nice layout, Mr. Ben.

I like that form, been thinking about going to that instead of 30 clamps.

It was white ash. Makes me sick!

Man that sucks Dannon.

Yeah Roy, the 2x4 form with blocks has served me well.  I was just having trouble clamping these forward handles I've been trying.

Dannon I guess you win for havin the purtiest core wood.  :o

If it's any consolation, I think the edge grain maple? looks just fine as a veneer

I thought so too!

Thats a heartbreaker. If it was for me, I would tell you to send it. Funky's OK, what the Hell!

It sucks to make a mistake like that, but there could be a bright side. If you can get more of the same veneer, you can make two limbs to match and get two bows.
Dave.
" Vegetarian" another word for bad hunter.

Bvas

Well.....Aside from a final sanding,I think everything is ready to go. Hopefully I have time tomorrow to get this thing glued up.

Different back and belly is okay Dannon.
Bvas, nice handle.

That wouldn't bother me btw Dannon.

Looking good Brad ...

Should be able to glue up the test bow tonight.

Mr. Ben, I'm digging that wall behind the bow. I love wood on walls.

Test run is looking good to me.

Bvas

Ben, what are you using to apply pressure?
Those pegs seem awfully close together.

BMorv

Yeah they are close together.   1" apart, .5" dowels.  I'm using bike intertube for the bands.  I'm going to take some of the dowels out by the riser and drill holes for clamps.

I think you may want to take out every other dowel. You may find it difficult to keep tension and wrap with such narrow gaps.

Either way, make sure you do a dry run with the bands.

Thanks Roy.   I wish I could have covered all of the walls with it.  It's old heart pine.

Brad, I used the bands when I glued the plastic to the top the form and it wasn't bad getting them on.   I'll do a test run though.

I really like that riser design.  Never seen one like that.  Pretty creative.  I'm interested to see how it turns out.
