Shweeeet.!!! Did you use a stringer (I beam)???  I have some old unfinshed bows and was thinking of making a 2pc out of one of them but they don't have a stringer... Taking so much wood off without a stringer kinda scares me...

kennym

Yep 1/4" phenolic back to belly thru site window.

Also wrapped handle with auto body glass cloth. Not sure that's an approved material but seems good so far ...

Just didn't wanna order a bunch of stuff

Kenny you sneaky devil you. That looks good. The auto resin may set quicker but just s strong probably. And most guys put carbon tape in there 1 layer after the first wrap of glass.

Yeah make Roy a FHLBP could be a two piece nen he gots parts to play with

Yep, be sure to put the black layer in. I got pretty thin on the bottom edge of the glass wrap because I didn't. Thought I had the grip as wanted but took it a little deep on bow back. It works fine but  looks weak. The pressure there is on the top of the socket so it is good. But bothers me that I did it!! LOL

Oh, I don't like doing leather wraps so I masked it off and sprayed the grip with bedliner...

You don't need carbon fiber...  Glass is plenty strong as long as you wrap it good enough...  I would think as long as you have a heavy 3/16" and thicker wrap on there you should be good to go...

kennym

The only thing I woulda had the black for was to tell when I was shaping deep enuff!!

And I agree the glass is plenty stout, I may dye the resin on a layer on next one

Carbon gives me piece of mind. I try never to under build. Yeah I did on with bed liner. You can get the thin rubber sleeves from Black Widow. Or bicycle inner tubes.

It will kinda work...  It will just kinda mix and fade in with the resin that is already on there and the next layer or two that you are gonna put on...  It will sorta work but will be vague... The only way that will work well is if you let the wraps on there harden then wrap it with pigmented resin and let that harden and then do your final wraps...

Just take a thin strip of colored cotton fabric and wrap it around the grip one one layer thick...

Where did you get all your TD socket sleeve supplies from?
The human body is the only machine the harder you work it, the stronger it gets.

Release agent 3-4 coats of Johnsons paste wax after you seal the tenon with several coats of CA glue. I have found if you get a good tight fit putting on finish after may get the tenon too tight.

Nice work Kenny.  That looks slick.

There's an article in Primitive Archer which shows how to make a takedown with automotive glass fabric like you used and standard 2 ton epoxy.  They recommend 1/8" thick wrap for 50 lbs and below and 3/16" thick above 50 lbs.

This is with wood selfbows so I'd imagine what most of the fiberglass guys are doing with carbon and ibeams is overbuilding.  But that's a good thing with bows.  Just food for thought.
Life is too short to use marginal bow wood
