I hate to admit it . But reading through the last couple hog hunting posts had me alittle jealous. In order to ease my suffering I decided to take my frustration out on the local rabbit population ..while I managed to bring a few home with me, both cases involved a 50 to 100 yard dash through the thick stuff .. so my question is , what's everybody using? I currently have been using fairly heavy shafts with hex blunts..although they do the job , I think I would  rather skip the sprint workout after the shot.

I like shooting jack rabbits,and found them to be pretty tough. I always shoot them with broadheads.

Years back my farm place was the last stronghold of the big white-tailed jack rabbits in Iowa.  Farming practices have wiped them out. We almost always used hi-precision three blades for jacks.  They were free around here, so it was no big loss when one snaked into the alfalfa.   i found that filing a fairly deep corner cut into them it helped to keep them from snaking  a bit. 

Broadheads for me.

Rubber blunts thump them pretty good, but if you're hunting alone, no dogs, a broadhead is a better choice as already suggested.

I use judos. Rabbits are pretty thin skinned and I never have a problem with penetration. They also don't go far at all. I think my longest tracks job was 15 yards.

Head shots make tracking easier!  Hex heads work as do judos. I do not use broadheads. I hunt rabbits religiously.  There is nothing like it-exercise, lots of shooting and a tasty ending

Whitetail jacks and cottontails are not the same.

I use the VPA small game thumper heads. They work great for rabbits and kill squirrels quick with head and chest shots. I often times use old broadheads though too for mixed bad small game.

I hunt rabbits with  beagles and I don't want the dog to get cut on a broadhead so I use steel blunts. The blunts usually hang up in the rabbit so they can't get through the brush. When they get hung up I sometimes put another one through them

I don't hunt with dogs so when I hunt  It's  with broadheads no matter the game.

I usually use broadheads for critters on the ground. Rabbits, squirrels and such. If the squirrels are in trees I use the VPA small game head. I'm glad I was using broadheads this January when I bumped into another rabbit hunter.

Have used Hex blunts and plain steel blunts, but my favorite for rabbits is the cheaper Bodkin type three blade broadhead. Even after a few miss's, the not so sharp head still does an excellent job on bunnies. Short recoveries are the norm.

Headshots obviously give the shortest recoveries, but the way I shoot sometimes, headshots are often more good luck than good shooting 

Actually might go and see if I can find a bunny after work this afternoon, sounds like a good plan, haven't chased them for ages.

Sorry no pictures, but those 3 Rivers hammers do a great job on cottontails with a 50 pound Berry duo shooter longbow.
