What [style, design, type] of Traditional bow is preferred.  ie. you prefer a D bow, Recurve, R/D, forward handle style, takedown etc...........etc...

Crooked Stic

I like them all. Like the dead in the hand TDs  Like RDs for the performance. Want figure out how to do the FHLB in a sleeve TD soon.

FHLB is a forward handle longbow correct.?   I guess if anyone could make one that would be you.

I like lots of the longbow styles as well but in particular I really like the short R/D bows, Big Jim's Thunderchild, Striker Stinger/Classic etc. Not sure if those are considered hybrids or if they even have a type.

Not a fan of recurves.

Thought I liked R/D longbows the best, but recently got a custom recurve from a local bowyer named Paul Schwartz. Holy smokes! This thing is slightly lighter in draw weight than my 58" r/d longbow, but it spits 'em out faster. And, it's smooth and really nice to look at. Funny thing is that it's quieter, too. Paul's a wizard!
Will post images when I figure out how.

Now then gobblerswan, most of my bows have a minimum of 10 pcs in them...  and maybe 20 when they're done...
Stay sharp, Kenny.

Forwardhandle

I have all the bows you mentioned and it's hard to pick one style that fits all I think for hunting & 3d I prefer a 64" D/R or 64" recurve for just plain relaxing and stump shooting I prefer a 68 " mild reflexed strait long bow & for tight spaced blind shooting like a 60" FHLB or a 60" D bow it's hard for me to pic one size and style that fits all situations so I just make as many types of bows as I can !
If you fear failure, you will never try ! But never except it!!

Yer not a real bowyer till ya see the lightning strike a bow on the tillering tree:)

kennym

I'm not much of a recurve fan , I like D/R longbows (or shortbows)  and about any kind of straighter bow.
Stay sharp, Kenny.

OkKeith

I am a discerning archer!

I only like traditional bows with strings. I'm sorry, call me a snob but my bow has to have a string, or at least the potential for a string. Yup... only bows with strings for me.

Keith, I'm a special trick bowyer.

I can start out with a one piece bow on the tree and then lightning strikes and I end up with a 4 piece bow that still has a string on both limb tips:)

I've built straight longbows, mild r/d, and most recently a short hybrid longbow.  I like them all, but I still always come back to my straight Hill style longbows.  Just something about their simplicity...

I prefer short (under 52") radically recurved bows, particularly the Western Scythian bows.  I also like those Central Asian designs that utilize siyahs, like the bows of the Huns, Avars, Mongols, Persians, Turks, etc.  Designs which are incorrectly called "Horse Bows".

To me, Traditional bow designs go back before the 18th century.

Here's a 48" Scythian replica built by my ATARN friend Jason Beever:
