In working on my latest bow I have gotten the limbs nearly done, but I would to taper the but end something like the pic below. How do you all get that done? Do you make jigs or just free hand it?

I could see an easy jig except for the little curve in there...  I'm guessing you make an angled sled and grind the curve around it then hand work the little curve from lam to lam. Hope that made sense!! LOL

Oh, go easy, the glass turns white if you get it hot....

Thanks Kenny. I was thinking the same thing about a jig, but frequently I will labor my thought process to death and then someone posts a jig that is about as simple as can be and I feel pretty stoo-ped for not thinking of it.

Yes an angled jig with an insert to bolt the limb down. I use mine on a profile sander. I will take a pic today if my old mind remembers.  :scared:

Here is my jig. as far as that dished out part goes I dont think I would like the fact that the glass against the pad looks to have a sharp edge and would be prone to easy dinging but it looks neat.

Thanks Mike. About as simple as it gets. Now to make the jig and buy one of those sander.... ok, maybe I will just have to be very careful on my Ridgid.

You could do a lot of that shaping blended in with the limb on the riser.

Well here is my take on the jig and the results. I got no complaints, just a bit more finish work to do.

I like that. Bow is looking good from here. What kind of drilling jig you using on the limbs and riser?

I have the Dowel-It, 2500 I think it is. It seems to be pretty consistent as long as you do it right. After I initially set it I hold the center part down as tight as I can to the limb/riser then loosen and re-tighten the jig a couple of times. That seems to get it settled on a good line.

Looks good skeeter.

Been thinking about that curve on the edge. If you put a tall fence with a stop on your spindle sander, could you put that curve in them? Or would the table interfere?

Sorry, I can picture it in my head, but hard to explain in words. Lol

Thanks Bvas. I really don't care about the curve all that much, although it was cool lookin. Mostly I just wanted the angle. I am just trying to learn the basics now, I'll work on fanciful when I get more experience
