I didn't kill him my neighbor did, We've been after him for three years. He was an awesome animal that eluded me six times over the years being within 30 yards. We called him vinnie. Final score was 170 3/4. It's awesome to have a valley full of neighbors that are willing to manage and make it possible to be able to hunt animals of this caliber.

Homey88

Great animal and a great hunt. Always enjoy following this thread.

Thank you for taking us along this far.  Hope to see a hero picture yet from you this year, while not Angus, you've described some other dandy bucks.

I too was looking forward to more story and a good pic of a great buck after a successful hunt.

I feel for you as I had similar happen to me last year except I bumped the buck to a rifle hunter.  Really bothered me for a few weeks after.

Jim,
I am sorry you didn't get Angus with your bow but look beyond that and what you became. You put much time and planning on trying to harvest Angus and he would have probably out smarted the guy who did get him though if he had used a bow.
Sounds like he was starting to find a new place to live on your property if he out witted the others for 3 years.
A smart educated buck he was but now he has taught you as well as you learn the behavior of a white tailed deer.
You have many others to go after and the memory Angus has left in your mind nobody can take from you.
Those pictures of him on the trail cam and the ones in your food plot I would take and have them made into 8"x11"  pictures to hang in a barn wood picture frame and hung in your Yurt as a reminder of the "CHASE"!
Don't stop the 5 Pines posts cause I loved all your story's of every year. Put your boots back on and grab the bow and go sit in your stand and see what our Creator can do and trust He has something else He wants to share with you.
That Angus was a blessing to witness in the wild and what a great time you had and that is what I call a great hunt! :archer: :campfire:

I bet ole Angus passed a few of his genes on too. Not that that area needs them, Im across the river, the area is unique and awesome.

Well that bites.  But it sounds like you have a few other good target animals in the area.  Good hunting on filling the tag with one of them.

It's always sad when a buck like Angus is no longer walking in the woods. Even if I had taken him there would still be that " he's not out there anymore" feeling.

I have been rewarded in the past with big horns after hard work and will be again. I am certainly rich with memories.

Happy I was so close on my guess as to the final 170 score, wish we knew what that big bugger weighed!

Jim, your attitude in this is humbling. Had it been me, I'd be in the mullygrubs for weeks. So good to read your take on all this.

Bummer Jim.  I was beginning to think Angus was unkillable. It's not the first time bucks you've played chess with met their end from lead rather than steel.  I know you still have a few around to look forward to.  Good luck!

Dang, that's too bad! I've had that happen more than once and it's really frustrating. Really enjoyed this thread though.

Great job Jim.

It's time for silence.

I'm gonna be sick.  A firearm is no way to go.

One man's sorrow another man's gain.

A buck like that had to have others on his tail. It's been an adventure for all of us here it seems.

You said it all in the post about the place you call home. We don't have your deer numbers, but I marvel at my good fortune to hunt our land right out the back door.

Thanks for sharing, Jim.

Still trying to absorb this horrific news. All ready talk of special hunts in jan , feb and possible march .

Awfully thankful I had have 10 full years here at the farm.

But I have a feeling the great days of chasing my beloved whitetails is going to change dramatically.

All the efforts of depleting the herds in areas like that has proved ineffective to stop the "spread of cwd" in every instance yet the mindless fools who make those decisions keep making the same wrong decisions.  Hopefully it won't be the case in your area.
