I am wanting to use one size arrow for two different bows. Both bows are ILF, one is 45lbs and the other is 53lbs. I don't want to add weights behind the insert. Just want to use brass 100 grain inserts and then change the point weights to what I need. So which gold tip would be more likely to work for me?

I have used the 29 1/4 3555(500) trads with footing(2117) and by adjusting point weight (125-225) and 50grn inserts [attachment=1,msg2833836]was able to get good flight from my 48-55 pound recurve bows . but that is at my 27 draw you don't say yours . if short draw 600s might work.

I shoot 3555 from all of my bows ranging from 40-62 pounds. I can get good flight out of all of these bows by using 100-200 grain points. Some if my bows aren't center cut though so I don't know if you'll have the same experience with them as I do.

Not sure what your draw length is but I would say 3555 500 spine. Out of 45# bows I can get great flight out of 500 or 600 spine gold tip traditional depending on point weight. A few years ago Big Jim opened my mind to how well you can get even the 600 spine to shoot really well out of bows up to 47#. You can get a test kit from 3 rivers so you can bare shaft and see which you like best.

You can also get individual shafts at Lancaster archery, buy 2 500 and 2 400, see what works best for you.

3555 would be the way to go. I don't even know if you could make a 400 spine work with a 45 pounder.

I agree with bcwilly2003 recommendation to purchase a couple of arrows of each spine.  A 500 spine was weak for my center cut CoyWolf hybrid longbow (Robertson Stykbow).  I bare-shaft paper-tuned in 1/4" increments.  For this bow (49# @ 28") the Gold Tip 400 Traditional Shafts (30") with a 200 grain point was the best combination.

The footing is simple  find the post of aluminon arrow size to foot (also see videos). I like 2117(400 in new black shafts) with gold tip trad 3555(500) may have to sand the shaft if  tight and 1535 a little loose ( 2013 on my wife's 700 warrior gt) on some arrows I use 1 inch others I use 2 inch , I cut the  xx75 2117 on my arrow saw (but you could use a plumbers cutter and open/deburr the ends) I then use Big Jims hot melt glue and heat the glue& footing apply glue hot to shaft and slide on (should be snug )then using same glue put insert in . A 1 inch footing should not change the spine of the shaft as it is the same length or less than the insert. A 100 grain insert is 1 1/2 inch long (50 and supplied are 1 inch) any footing longer than insert(inserts act as internal footing ) may increase the spine of the arrow. I like 2inches of 2117 for footing and strength it adds  (plus 1/4 on nock end)[attachment=1,msg2834150]
