Just finished a new set of woodies for my go-to bow, my 75# Blackwidow longbow. These are the last of my 105-110# Surewoods, cut to 29", white crown with ocean blue cresting, mahogany stain, 4x 5" white feathers, and 235 grains on the pointy end. They come in at 860 grains and a 15% FOC (if that means anything)

Anyway, when they were ready to shoot, I took them outside and shot one at 15 meters at an old arrow hole in my bag target, and centered the hole  :goldtooth:  and the arrow flew perfectly. OK, back to 20 meters and shot another. This one hit exactly where I was looking, and had slipped in touching the first. Wow. Back to 25 meters and shot another. There was a bit of a funny "crack" sound as the arrow hit, but it was only an inch or so from the first two.

Alrighty, nice group that, really pleased with the new arrows. Lets retrieve them and shoot some more.

But, on getting to the target and having a look, that last arrow had hit one of the previous ones dead center of the nock, and had split the arrow into four. The pieces of the nock are probably still in orbit somewhere, I couldn't find them.

Darn, only shot three shots and already have damaged one new arrow beyond repair  :biglaugh: Didn't take long........

Still, after giving the rest of them a go, really happy with the new set, even if it is now incomplete, because they do shoot well.

Good hunting to you all.
May the wind be your friend, and may your arrows fly true,
Most of all, may the appreciation and the gratitude of what we do keep us humble......

That's why 5 spot targets were invented.  :smileystooges:

Does that fall under the category of "Oops!" or "Damn!"?

I think that's definitely an OH S**T moment!!  Nice group!!!

Too many bows to list, and so many more I want to try!  Keep the wind in your face, and your broadheads sharp.

I used to think splitting arrows was really cool. Now I cringe when I hear that sound.

Pfranchise

Yeah shooting groups will do that. I shoot separate spots on my target with each arrow so that doesn't happen.

Eric Krewson

I quit shooting groups for just that reason. Now I only shoot one arrow, retrieve it and shoot again, this way every shot has to be your best because it is only that first shot that counts.

A Lex

I'm normally a shoot one and retrieve it guy too, but thought I'd be pretty safe walking back 5 meters after each shot.

Obviously not.......this time.

Ah well, I can think of worse, less satisfying ways to destroy an arrow. Like watching your arrow zero in on a cow pat, only to have the cow pat become a rock. That arrow exploded  :biglaugh: Stumping is really good fun though.

Actually, I might go do some right now.

I only shoot one arrow at a time now and have found several benefits. First, I don't worry about breaking arrows. Then, pausing to retrieve the arrow after every shot provides a good opportunity to review my form and the outcome of that shot. Lastly, since I sometimes shoot 100 arrows or so, often from 20 yards (40 yards to the target and back), I walk close to 4,000 yards during the session.
