I just got an older bear takedown and I do not know if it is an A or B riser. I measured it to be 17 inches from base of latch to base of latch. It makes for a 60" bow with the limbs. I am sure I am just missing it somewhere on the net. Thanks, Scott

Hmmmm.  If you're measuring to the inside dimension of the distance between the latches, I agree with mooskat.  However, if you're measuring the total length of the riser, i.e., from the outside end of one latch to the end of the other, then it's an A riser with no.3 limbs.

David Mitchell

Orion raises a good point.  If you are measuring from the very end of the latches toward the arrow shelf, then it is a B riser and #1 limbs.

Does the serial number contain an A or B?

Do the limbs serial number begin with the number 1 or 3?

Now Kelly, that's the easy way to do it.   :bigsmyl:

Sorry work has been getting in the way. I can't read any of the serial numbers on the limbs or riser. I will try to get better details on my measurements...Thanks for all the help so far

The A handle with #3 original limbs makes a 60" bow.  The B handle and #1 original limbs makes a 60" bow.  When they started making the bow in FL the 2B green tip limbs made a 56" or 60" bow on the A and B handles, respectively. The A handle has an overall length of 15 1/2" top of latch to bottom on the inside, where the B is 19".  The new company makes both A & B handles again and the #1 and #3 limbs.

abbatoys did say he was measuring from the base of the latch and got 17 inches. The longest possible distance on three different A risers that I measured only came to 16 5/8".

abbatoys

Not sure exactly how to measure the riser correctly but this is what I have come up with.
14 1/2" on the outside (facing away from me) of the bow from the flat base of metal latches.
17 1/8" from inside the bow from base of latch to base of latch.
On the outside I get 13 1/2" where the points of the wood flair out where a limb would start, white outline of change in wood colors.
Sorry for all this mess, but I do appreciate all the help..Scott

Is it a wood riser or a metal riser?

Oh, I see now, you are talking about a wood riser. Any chance you could post a picture of it?

That is a definite "B" riser. Made in the late 80s or early 90s. I have one that looks just like it.

abbatoys

Thanks for sorting that out for me..So a B riser should have a brace height of 7 3/4 - 8 3/4..????

That is a B riser. I believe that's all they made in the 80's and most of the 90's. Brace height on mine are about 8 1/4".
