How are you guys filling wood grain??   

  I usually only have to do accents in the riser such as Wenge and Paduak...  I have been taping off the accents and using EA-40...  It does not always fill all the grain on one coat but fills most of it...   I got a few bows in the works right now and I was looking for an easier or another method...

   For finishing I put on two coats of matt auto urethane, sand and then apply another two coats...  Tomorrow I am thinking of applying two coats and then an extra two coats just to the riser area...

   What are your thoughts on this??  Will it be enough to fill the grain??  Should I thin the finish so it soaks into the grain better??

Last couple bows I've used super glue(cheap stuff from dollar store). Usually do two coats and sand. Depending on the wood, usually only have to do this once or twice.
Dries very fast. You can usually apply the glue and sand 10-20 minutes later.

Yep, same here.  Cheap superglue.  Wenge takes a lot.  Don't use the gel type, it's an exercise in frustration.  For me, wenge typically takes 8-12 applications before it is glass smooth.

I have always used Thunderbird mixed without thinner. This takes several applications. EA 40 sounds like it would be better to me.

   Hey...  No comments from the Peanut Gallery...

   Here is some of the bows that I am working on...  I got 5 coats on the area where grain is an issue...  looks pretty good...  I guess I will find out when I sand it...

Yup I was..

The really porus wood I use finishing epoxy with 50 percent acetone. Most woods though three wet coats of Buff Hide or Tbird then 320 before top coats.
