I have a local youth camp that entrusted me with their archery repair department.  I will mainly be re-fletching and re-nocking the arrows that have fallen to the hands of their youth. haha.

I need to know what nocks are BEST for their 5/16 wooden cajun shafts.  What glue is the BEST for attaching the nocks and the feathers in the future.  They also come with crimp on points, and I need to be able to redo those as well.

Can anyone recommend me a list of supplies I should order to help me in this endeavor?  FWIW, I have all the fletching tools and feathers I believe, but any donations would greatly be appreciated.

IS there a best way to strip off torn feathers for the future or should I just go with vanes?

Thanks in advance for any help and incite.

I would definitely use feathers over vanes. I just carefully scrape the shaft with a sharp blade and sand lightly if needed. Duco cement is my most common adhesive. Check out the sponsor sites to find the best deals on supplies.

Is any one nock better than the next?

Superglue like Gorilla glue is all I use on nocks and feathers. It's compatible with most finishes, great with polyurethane.

Thank you, Don.  I just picked some of that up this week, perfect timing!

I would love to have the youth involved.  The only problem is a lot of these kids are scattered around the state at different homeless shelters and there is no way to get in touch with them.  The main camp they will be used for is what we call "sibling camp".  This is where siblings will be allowed a weekend with their brothers and sisters(same mom or dad) for one weekend a year.  A lot of our foster kids in Louisiana have siblings and rarely are they in the same location.

It is a pretty sad ordeal.

A lot of the schools in MS have an archery program now. The kids love it!

You're doing a good thing for these kids Daniel.   I'll scout through my supplies and try to come up with some nocks and feathers.  I'll keep you posted.

You might try contacting the Compton Traditional club.  I think they help with arrows for kids.

Daniel, I have a bunch of 5/16 wood shafts, and I'll be glad to donate some to the cause if it will help. They're hardwood, and much tougher than POCedar. These are not spine and weight matched, but I do have 5/16 that are matched, in the 30-35-40# range.

Don,
I will let you know.  I don't know much about wood arrows.  All I know is I have all the ones that weren't able to be used anymore.  lol
