With the season rapidly approaching and the wildfire season off to a roaring start I just wondered how we as hunters are dealing with the smoke when it comes to hunting.
I hear the wet bandana does nothing to mitigate the smoke particles in the air so what are folks doing to stay in the mountains.

The wildfire season was off to a roaring start a few months ago.   There isn't too much you can do short of supplied air.  For the entire month of June the smoke in Durango was so thick I could almost blow rings and the whole area put up with it.  Even so, I'm still coughing up gunk.

I am not there but reports on a couple of fly fishing boards say the guys are giving up after 4 hours on stream due to coughing, burning eyes and some breathing problems.....

Go figure.

Looks like i just have to tough it out.
I get a kick out of the smokers at work when they complain about poor air quality on their smoke breaks.
Atleast I won't have to worry about cover scent.

Yes the smoke is bad, but by the time Elk season is on it should dissipate. One thing is if you smoke your self before the hunt it will be a good cover scent.
Take the long way around.

Do's any body know if the uncompaghre wilderness burned in SW CO?

What a great deal!  Thanks, Mike.  I already have both videos and they are among the very best.

watch your areas, I've had to change tags at the last minute when they closed my area a few years ago.

Here is a link to keep track of the fires. Most accurate and updated info. I've found.

Good site.  Been watching the surprise and rampike Creek fires here in unit 4.  Could be weeks before there contained.

Nice but looks like it would be hot and restricting when climbing and exerting yourself.
Might be the only solution though.

Looked at the website showing the fires.  The Bull Draw (Colorado) fire is within a mile of where I set my base camp when I go out there.  It is moving towards the camp and looks to go through the areas I hunted.  I was not planning on going this year which is good because I likely would have to change locations due to the area being closed.  It has burnt over 28000 acres and is less than 20% contained.  Things are going to change there.
