Never shot one but hunted them in Colorado, just being where the live is a great thing. I love the high country. Spent a week camping at 10,000 feet with Cyclic Rivers a few years ago........it was wonderful.

Just off the mountain today , got my base camp set up and my first camp up on the mountain set. Packed in this morning between rain showers several miles and got everything set up for camp one. Saw a good bull and a few cows yesterday afternoon up in a park feeding also heard a few bulls talking. On the way out today I saw 2 elk but not sure what they were as I was in a massive downpour. The storm hit fast and hard and the temperature dropped just as quick. By the time I made the truck I could not hardly feel my hands and I was soaked. But I was happy as ever with elk sighted and the fish plucking bugs off the water every time I looked at the creek. Going back in on Thursday with my buddy's and we will be in the thick of it come Saturday morning...

Good luck everyone...

Last year ,2017, in Idaho ...shot with a 62# @30" Heritage recurve sending a cedar shaft tipped with  125 grain Zwickey Eskimo to about 25 yds .The guy went 65 yds and laid down at the spot he is in the photo. Total arrow weight  was around 575 grains.
Will start the season this year(in about 3 days) using an hackberry self bow, I made last summer, pulling about 50 lbs @ 30" and Doug fir arrays with 125 grain Zwickey on the business  end.
Good luck to all !
