Just looking for some help with clarification...

I recently picked up a 70's model Swift Wing recurve which didn't come with a string. The bow is 30# @ 28" (assuming 28, not written on bow), which would put it at 21-24# at my 25" draw length. Have since read that it will require a 10 or 12 strand Dacron/B50 string, depending on draw weight.

For a 66" recurve ("amo" not written on bow with length, only 66"), do I need a 62" string (66-4")?

And when ordering, do I order based on bow length (66") or actual string length (62")?

If anyone here on TG makes Dacron strings, I'd love to buy a few from you!

Thank you for any clarifications here!

KY..Rob

AMO is 3" shorter than marked bow length. This stands for Recurves and Longbows, with that said. I prefer 4" shorter when dealing with Dacron, it will stretch quite a bit. Some string makers ask for Actual string length and some ask for AMO. Look in the sponsor classifieds for "Ten Ring Strings" Allan will be more than happy to make up some excellent B50 or B55 strings and answer all of your questions.

KY Rob,
I really appreciate your response. I have only dealt with FF string on modern bows- thank you for clarifying things. I'll reach out to Allan as well.
Take care!

If amo not written by length then for sure 4" less so actual string length of 62".  Most likely your bow is closer to 65" nock to nock.

10-12 strands is all you'll need for that bow, I'd go with a 10 strand endless b-50 string.
