Im wondering what some of you guys think are the best commercial bows out there.  Im not talking about your customs, just your commercial grade (bear, pearson, etc.) recurve or longbows.  I personally like recurves, but what ever youre prefrence.

Im looking to get a new bow (used, not brand new)and thought I would ask some of your opinions.  Im not quite ready to step up to the customs yet.  Im still trying to get my feet wet.

Thanks in advance

LBR

Depends on who you ask.  Lots of great old bows floating around, many of which will give most of today's custom bows a run for their money where it really counts (smooth draw, performance, forgiveness).  Pearsons are under-rated IMO.

Best bow out there is the one you can shoot the most accurate and feels comfortable to you.

RedTx, checkout the classifieds here, I got a my custom-made(not for me) Sentman longbow.

You can find some nice bows for a nice price.

Sorry Sam, but there are hundreds of "best bows" available.  Every single one of us has a slightly different take on what constitites a "best bow". Advise you either go to several local shoots this spring / summer and try out, or handle or at least see as many as you can before you decide, or, a bit more expensive, and time consuming, but I highly suspect that many on this site trade bows a lot looking for that one that they call "best bow".

Good luck

I've not found it in forty-couple years.  Each one has its own qualities.  I would probably look for a newer Bear Super Kodiak or a Martin Hunter...bout as good as it gets.

I think the new bows are not all that bad. As mentioned the Bear & Martin are a couple to look at. Frank

Hard to beat the Martin Hunter or Howatt hunter, I've heard they are the same bow but not sure. And if I'm not mistaken I think the #3 typical Whitetail was taken with one. I have not shot any of the newer ones but the older ones always shot well.

Why not buy a used bow that is custom. I mean bears and Martins are great bows as are the older pearsons and brownings. I like the older brownings myself, but ya can buy a used Morrison, Widow, Silvertip for half price of a new one. Just a thought. Shawn

Shawn's got the right idea. But like some of the others, I say whatever you can shoot the best. And if you still can't decide, go for the quietest of the ones you shoot well.

I havea custom longbow that needs a new home!
