Has anyone used Gorilla glue to glue inserts in place? I bought some two part epoxy but I hate to use it because the fumes give me asthma attacks.  I saw Gorilla glue at Wally world last night and after reading the label thought it might work for caron shaft to metal insert. However I thought I would ask around first. Can anyone help?

I have not tried that but I can say that the Powerbond has been working well. I hit a few TREES just to see if it would loosen up and so far so good.

Gorilla glue expands when you use it. I did some CX shafts about 2 years ago and 6 of the 12 split at the insert. I wouldn't use Gorilla glue for any type of insert.

I used the Powerbond in the house with my wife and kids around my work station and they didnt notice any fumes. It didnt bother me at all when I used it. Hope this helps.

I have used Gorilla glue with no ill effects on Beman 400 ICS Hunter shafts/arrows.

How about JB Weld?

This is for Gold Tips but three people have mentioned the glue expanding. Two said it worked well. this is from 2 websites I asked the question on. Where can I get the Powerbond? Is it a two part epoxy?

The Powerbond is a Bohning Archery product...you can get it where ever these products are sold...I got mine at BassPro, and it works the best on my goldtips and inserts!!! If I can't tear em up, it's gotta be good!!!

I prep the inside of my shaft and use powerbond,have not had any problems.You can get powerbond from Kustom King or 3 Rivers.

Powerbond for me.

I use Hot Melt without any problems.  Just have to prep the inside of the shaft well, get the inserts just hot enough to melt the glue, and dip the shaft/insert into water to cool it quickly when the insert is  put in place...

powerbond looks to be the ticket then.

JB Kwik works great for inserts.  It is permanant,  as I've tried to get one out and destroyed the shaft in the process.

I like hot melt glue also. If I break an arrow I can screw in a field tip, heat it up and pull the insert out... use it on another arrow.

For carbon I like Goat Tuff.......

I've been using Gorilla Glue for a while now with GREAT results.  I used Powerbond prior to using Gorilla Glue, and it's good stuff, but nowhere near as strong as Gorilla Glue.

I prep the shafts by using a gun cleaning brush to scuff up the inside of the shaft, then taking alcohol-dipped swabs and cleaning out the residue.  When installing the inserts, I make sure to moisten the insert first, apply the Gorilla Glue, and then work the glue into all of the knurls in the insert by turning the shaft and working the insert back and forth at the same time.

Gorilla Glue does expand when it dries, but I've never had a shaft crack from it - usually if there's any excess it just comes out where the end of the shaft and the lip of thie insert meets.  I always let the shafts dry in a vertical position with the shafts against the floor to make srue the expanding glue doesn't form a gap between the sahft and insert.

A few nights ago I put 3 Easton ST Excel 500's through a 3/4" piece of plywood on accident (missed the target) and none of the inserts got loose - with Powerbond I was almost guaranteed to lose an insert in the same piece of plywood.

To remove a Gorilla Glue'd insert, put a field point in a vice horizontally and screw the shaft onto the threads, but only screw it on enough to engage the threads firmly, not all the way up to the point.  Then take a torch and heat the insert while keeping steady pulling pressure on the shaft.  The therads on the point will direct heat into the center of the insert, but will not heat the shaft directly (unless you screw the shaft all the way agains the point, which will ruin the arrow shaft pronto).  If you keep steady pressure pulling back on the shaft away from the point, as soon as the insert gets hot enough for the glue to release your sahft will slide right off the insert with no damage to the insert or the shaft.  This works just as well with Powerbond as it does with Gorilla Glue.

Personally, I don't notice a difference between gorilla glue and powerbond, after using the two. So when I put inserts in my carbons, I use gorilla glue with no ill effects.

all i have to say though if you maybe want to change to the brass inserts or anything like that dont use power bond you cant get it out. i have some axis and uses hot melt and they have not buged
