Went for a hunt this afternoon/evening.  Lots of birds.  Then as I was snoozing a bit on stand overlooking my baitsite, a BIG-UN came sneaking in.  The wind was out of the northwest.

I had taken a practice shot, well it was at a treerat, and went and got my arrow earlier.  This BIG-UN hog got downwind of the spot my arrow landed, trotted over to where my arrow had landed, sniffed the ground and jetted out of there.  They don't get that size by not learning a thing or two.  He was a BOSSHOG, that was at 5:15.

At 6:05 I hear crunching behind me just as the northwest wind died out.  Another hog appeared looking over my left shoulder and comes into the bait site.  I was already standing, I grasped my bow while he was in the cover, and headed my way.  The wind had laid at this point.  He was at 12 yrds and I could not shoot due to some limbs.  The boar continued to feed and entered a shooting window in between two bushes.

Once his vitals were centered  in the window and his front leg went forward, I went into auto-mode, concentration on the area behind the shoulder.  Bowarm came up, straight back to anchor, slowed the draw and once the BH nipped my finger away the wood arrow went.  The boar whirlled and took off at a trot with the arrow visible, I knew it had not gone all the way thru.

I listened, he ran, crashed, up again, crashed in the thicket, crashed then total silence.  I thought he must have expired.  Never count that you got one till the camera comes out.  I went and got my hunting partner to help trail.  He brought the trusty trench shotgun, just in case.

Very little blood at the beginning of the trail.  We doubled back twice in the dark with our Saturday Night Lights on!      ;)

I found a smear of blood and marked with orange ribbon.  Just speks for the first 30 yrds, then more drops, then more, then blood/blood!  I marked each blood splatter with ribbon as we eased through the thicket.  As I was looking at a stand of small bamboo, a dark blob caught my eye in the headlight.  I knew it was my hog.  I told Dan "We have a boar over here".  He approached with the shotgun, but he was finished.  My biggest hog taken, no idea what he weighed, but a trophy in my book for sure.
