Well finally I got one down.I decided to head off to another farm we have to hunt with my bud Nook in tow.I had this notion to hunt a ridge that have had good luck on before. Finally found a good tree with great cover, and climbed up for what would hope to be another exciting morning.I had been in the stand for and hour and a half so far.I was watching over this oak flat with and ivy thicket below, saw movement and out stepped this 6 pt.
I turned to be ready hoping for a shot opportunity. The buck slowly crept his way to what would be a 15 yd shot straight in front of me,he did.I drew my Morrison Longbow equipped with a Wensel Woodsman attached to a FMJ arrow.I released on him and hit high and of course with what usually with a spine shot,he drops.I was bummed but happy.I never like hitting them like that cause you have always finish them off quickly.
There had no longer hit the ground flopping, when out of the bottom came another buck and this was a big one for sure. His tines were tall and dark ansd he showed his dominance by just the way he carried himself. He watched as the 6 pt kicked around, got spooked and ran off.Moments later he appeared again this time walking right behind me.I again steadied myself as he walked into a small opening,I decided to hold low since the last shot went abit high.He kept walking and I held, released.........he still walks the great oak flat...enough said..You can't have it all in your favor in this wonderful sport of Trad archery......Sure is fun being out there though regardless of the bad moments..Note,always carry and extra bowstring, this is the first year I did. While taking pics i dropped my bow onto the BH and quess what happened?Yep...Gotta get another spare.

Congrats to both you and Travis, Danny. Looks like the CSG is doing a good job. Best to all.
The essence of the hunt for me is to enter nature and observe+ return safely occasionally with the gift of a life taken.

Thanks again guys.It does feel good to have one down.Seems like it is getting harder to get another tough.I had wanted to take my Morrison Recurve out so I shot it some today and seemed ready for the woods.I went in early around 2:30 today and found a nice spot to set up.I didn't see the first deer until @6:15,It was another buck, not very big though. He came and hung out under my stand what seemed like hours.I could see him smelling where I laid all my stuff before climbing up.
Finally he started moving away and gave me a quartering away opportunity.I never have taken a deer with a recurve so I saw an opportunity.I was in a small popular tree growing next to a white pine,so i had one hole cut out to my left.I came to full draw release and a loud whack occurred and it wasn't the arrow hitting the deer.My limb tip had hit the upper portion of my climber and I watched my arrow se saw right towards the kill and hit the ground. When he bolted I saw a bigger dark colored body flag and another evening hunt nothing but another ole memory. This is fun you have to admit but frustrating at times too.
Back to work tomorrow and I'll wait till Saturaday for the next adventure.......
