I bought some blue painters tape last week to mask the back of my glass and I just opened it up this morning and it's not the fabric type type I thought it was. This is a slick "plastic" feeling tape. Anybody ever use this stuff?  It's made by scotch

The blue I got was more of a paper type like regular masking tape, but doesn't stick as tight....

Hmmmm.... I think I'll try a short price of this stuff and see how well the ink pen writes on it.

kennym

Might heat it up too and see if it will peel off something...

Yup heat works. Heat gun on low.

I switched to the green frog tape masking tape and found that it's much easier to remove after the trip through the oven.

on the bow back I overlay the green frog tape with regular white masking tape.. that way I can see my lines and get the benefit of the easy removing green frog tape. I think I tried the slick blue tape once?? I seem to remember using the rest of the roll for taping down contractors paper down on my bench during glue ups.

kennym

Good idea Robert! I have taken the tape off and put the white on before laying bow out sometimes.

There is a yellow tape that works pretty good too, cant remember the name of it.. Kenny I only want to pull tape once, that lessens the chance of pulling a splinter..

I find the house brand green at Menards masking tape works great for bows.

I switched to the green tape too. Much easier to see my pencil lines.  It comes off just like the blue

Me too.  The green frog tape works the best of anything I've tried.

Maybe it's a Colorado thing.    ;)

Thanks for the input. Looks like green painters tape it is then.

I use the cheapest masking tape I can find. sticks well, doesn't peel off easy by hand, but if you take a 1" wood chisel and start peeling the tape with it, or carving the tape with it, it comes off quite easy.
scares the heck out of everyone when the watch me for the first time but I've been doing it for years. My help also. Have even had friends who have stopped by to help do it. No one has ever dammaged a bow.. not ever..nope, not even once. Just make sure the bottom of your chissel is always clean and lay it flat on the glass. Some time you have to push a little.
I never even scratch it.
I guess when I learn more, I will invest in some better tape.
