No, there's a strip of black uni-weft. The red you're seeing is paudauk. It's a lot brighter on the edge where it's not under glass.

Ok, I've got it finished up!

I shot it with four coats of urethane and then wet sanded it out with 800 grit followed by 2000 grit paper. Then, hand rubbed with polishing compound.
