I use a piece of a lam like Kenny does.  Hit it with some fine sandpaper and sorta round the end.  Throw away when done!

Ok, so what did I do today?

I layed out some limb templates for designs that I'm going to repeat.  A 60 to 62 inch RD 1.5" at the fades and a 60 to 52 inch RD 1.25 at the fades.  Plus an ASL.

Worked on finishing an RD that's about ready to go.  Just needs a leather handle wrap and it's very own string.

Today I found the thickest osage sapwood I've ever seen.  No way I'm removing all of that.  I'll make some sapwood bows with heartwood handles.  Splitting it off isn't an option.  This is small diameter (6"-8") second growth that almost looks like it grew over a dead core in spots.  There are old borer holes in the center of it.  The sapwood and first bit of heartwood look clean.  It has nice rings.  The sapwood is pretty flexible when it's fresh.  I might rough out a bow and clamp it to a reflex caul to dry.

Finished forward handle form. Finished 3pc.limb forms. Got a bow glued up and in the oven.

I worked on my next bow a bit. The riser was already made up and I am still torn on using it for these limbs. The maple for these limbs, believe it or not, came from the big orange box store. I could not, in good conscience, leave it there for someone else.

That's a sweet RD monterey.  Simple, sleek lines and I like the osage.
That maple is purdy Lonnie.  Wish my orange box store carried it.
Life is too short to use marginal bow wood

Mike I really like the slender look of that bow bet its fast ?
Clint thats a lot of sap wood I found a BL like that , my orange box doesent have any thing near that Lonnie awsome find !
If you fear failure, you will never try ! But never except it!!

Ours doesn't carry it but this one snuck in to the pile somehow.

Taking the plunge on a 3 pc TD recurve. Only made TD LBs so far.  I had a template I made a few years ago copied from a newer design by a big time bowyer. It is not exact for sure, close maybe. The tips dont come to full 90 degrees from the string line. I chickened out!

Glued and baked up my first limb. Kind of surprised at the spring back off of the form. I might have to reduce the radius on a new form someday.

64 inch test bow Kenny, trying to get a bow done so I can try out the forward handle form. It's next on the today list. Had a heck of a time tilering it today. The lower limb is narrower than the upper. Looks like the power lam went south a 1/4 inch at glue up. Profile looks perfect though. Frustrated, but I do like this stuff. However I think this has gone from a hobby to an obsession. May need to start a bowyers anonymous meeting on here   :banghead:        :biglaugh:

You did the right thing. It would have been a federal offence if that wood ended up as part of a shelf in someone's closet.

Robert, one thing about test bows is they teach you something, now if I could remember some of it! LOL
