Smooth on form time ?

Hi Fellas this is only the secound time I have used smooth on and I glued up a handle on a BBH bow this morning but I have to work tomorrow afternoon so I would like to pull it off the form in the morning, Its curing at room temp but do you guys think it would be safe pull it off the form at only 20 hrs and clean it up with out stressing any thing I relies 24 hrs is the norm ?

Hmmm. Depends on how badly you don't want to run the risk of a failure. I always like to be on the safe side and wait. Up to you though. I use a bow oven though and your doing a room temp cure. I'd hold off but that's just my opinion.

Ok thanks I will just wait the 24 hrs then why risk it I'm just short on time tomorrow but like most things with bows just hurry up and wait !

I used to be that way with my bowyering but I forced myself to slow down and not rush things. Lot less mistakes made that way. :D

Yep I normally don't like to take short cuts just was thinking maybe it was set enough for cleaning up but I don't know smooth on

At 75- 90 degrees and 4 to 6 hours of cure time I have found that the resin is pretty hard... It may not be fully cured but it is hard enough to take out of the form... But being cured at room temperature for 6 hrs I would not stress the limbs for 24 hrs...I post cure my bows in an oven for three hrs at about 150 to make sure they are fully cured... Krasus is right that you should always err to the safe side of things... There is always plenty of other stuff to do while you are waiting...

I just waited the full 24 hrs before taking it off I put it under a electric blanket at 104 Deg F for 5 hrs during the cure don't know if it really helps but figured it couldn't hurt , still had time to clean it up and get to short brace before going to work after this bow is done I'm going to build a proper hot box !

I cure my risers in my wife's over, with her permission of course.
