I'm refinishing a Bear maple riser with tru-oil. Specs need to be in black ink. What pen and what finish over top?

I use India ink wth whatever finish I feel like using over the top. Just let the ink dry for atleast 24 hours, longer is better or it could smear a bit. With tru oil, I'll put a coat or two of tru oil on to make the surface smooth and the ink doesn't run in the wood grain. Then I put a few more coats over the top with the rest of the bow. I'm still trying to figure out the best method to reduce runs when I use wax/grease finish. At the moment I just polish the wood as smooth as I can get it where I want the marking.

Sharpie pro industrial pens are fantastic for writing on bows in black. I use the extra fine point. The fine point is a little more bold.

Rapidograph pens and ink.

The Rapidiograph are great

So can you use Tru oil over the rapidiograph pens?

Probably a good idea to put a couple/few coats of finish, then the specs, then more finish.

That way if you decide you need to edit in any way you can do so without going completely through the finish.

Always use a test piece!

Like above I put on several coats of finish first.
Then then the writing.
I think tru oil would be ok but to be safe a,light spray of bullseye shellac will,seal,it then themrest of the finish.

Do a quick spray of satin poly, let it dry then write on it. You can add Tru-Oil over that to match the rest of the finish.
