Also can be the starting capacitor if blowing it out doesn't work. Sadly that means sending it back and if you got it through Home Depot take it back to them and have them return it and save shipping costs.

I agree with Ben. The cap is what gets it started in the right direction. Without it, it can just sit there and hum, waiting for a decision.

Maybe I'll squeeze a couple more bows out of it first.  Last time I used it it would stall out under Minor pressure but today it's fine.  I think the extension cord was the weak link with the stalling.

Today I blew it out and cleaned it up pretty good and after that is when the starting problems started?????

Wind is blowing hard in the shop today but any time the temperature is over 40 and there is no snow on the ground is a good day in February.

With luck and cooperation from the rigid I'll get a riser roughed out.   :)

Mine started doing the same thing.  Wasn't long until it began to smell the motor was toast.  Hope your luck is better than mine was.

Wondering if a fresh motor can be sourced outside the company?

The motor shaft is designed to be part of the occelation system so finding one not built by Ridgid isn't likely. You could spend more than half the cost of a new unit for a new motor and send the original in to be repaired. That is IF they will take the motor in seperate of the rest of the machine. You would have a spare that way. Also if you send it in to be fixed be sure to run it before you leave Home Depot. I received a rebuilt one that was dead when I received it.  :(

Check your warranty if you still have the receipt showing when you bought it.

Go to grizzly.com and spend a $1,000.oo on an edge sander and never look back. It will last you the rest of your life. I gave my rigid away. They are junk.

Had the same problem, it finally smoked for a couple of bows then quit.  Home Depot would not replace it because I didn't have the original receipt and hadn't registered it, was SOL.  I bought another one and it was a piece junk, no where near as good as the one replaced.  Took it back twice and finally got one one that was passable..for awhile.  I ended up swaping out/using most of the parts from the old unit to get of running smoothly.  It still works in a pinch.

Like Roy, I got a Grizzly edge sander and never looked back.
The broadhead used, regardless of how sharp, is nowhere as important as being able to place it in the correct spot.

Guess I'll just run it till it's dead and move on to something else.  A grand sure isn't in the works for me.

Easy for Roy.  All he had to do was give up the Coors light for a month and it was paid for.   :)    You have to admire that kind of discipline.

I bought a used Grizzly G1140 5 or 6 years ago off of craigslist..a new Grizzly 1140 is $865 delivered, a new GO512 like Roys is $900 delivered. I still have a Rigid, it works but I rarely use it since I got the used 1140. I guess the Rigids are not as "good" as they "used to be".

Just checked Craigslist Denver..there is a 6x80 Grizzly 1140 for $300..and another good sized edge sander for $250. Used both edge sander and belt sander in the search box..

Gonna take a look at those.  Still out of budget at this time but could be done in the next couple months.

Thanks for the heads up, Robert
