Are there any good mail order sources of hickory backing strips that I can add to a Maple board bow?  Lumber options are pretty limited in my area.

Pine Hollow, 3 Rivers  but shipping can be a killer.

Yep.

You can also just google "hickory bow backing" and you will get loads of hits.

Shipping is a big deterrent for me. It cant be helped with oversized items, like a 72" hickory backing, especially if you want it intact.  shipping can add almost 50% of the cost, depending on the material.

I'm fortunate to have a guy close enough to pick up from for most of what I need.

Have the backing strip cut in half and join it back with a scarf joint and a thin overlay over that. This will make the shipping a lot less and with a stiff handled bow it will be plenty strong enough.

Pine hollow looks pretty good.  I like their kits & may just opt for that.  Thanks!
