Band saw almost got my thumb

I have been running machinery for 36 years. today the band saw got 1 layer of skin, NO blood, but to close for comfort.

Whew, I almost didn't open this thread. When the title said the saw "got your thumb", I was assuming the worst. Good thing it wasn't, and that's about as gentle a reminder we're likely to get. Let's keep ourselves intact.

Be careful. It's hard to shoot a bow with nubs.

My table saw scared me. Maybe because I remember digging through a pile of sawdust looking for my Grandpas finger when I was young. I also had an uncle that had 7 3/4 fingers because of a table saw. I hardly ever used mine so I sold it while I could still count to ten.

I had something similar happen to me. I got a phone call while putting on a new saw blade and was distracted enough to fail to put back on the blade guard that sits next to the power switch of the machine. After flipping on the machine to test alignment and going to turn it back off while jabbering away I got a rude wake up call, I got super lucky and had no blood. First close call I had on this tool in its 10 years of service. Distractions are called Distractions for a reason I guess.

It's also a bad idea to run a saw when there's a pretty girl on your mind. I have a scar on my knuckle to remind me.

Yup... Me too... Glad you are ok... When I get a close call or do something stupid... I stop everything, take a deep breath and ask myself, "what the hell was I thinking about... Was my mind on my work?" 90% of the time it's usually about a woman... Gotta keep your mind on your work and respect them tools...

Yupper, and Mrs. Santa already has one of these sitting here by the xmas tree...

It draws 537cfm per minute, that's 3.58 times more than my shop vac. Otta make a big difference in the shop.

What do you guys think about osage having any healing or properties? I breathe a lot of osage dust and I never get sick. I haven't had so much as a cold in years. I don't think I've ever seen any fungus growing on osage.

I heat my shop and do all my grilling over osage so I'm exposed to the smoke also.

I have worked the last 25 years with people who suffer from breathing problems. I would strongly recommend doing your best to decrease the amount of dust you breath in, whether osage or not. It can sneak up on you.
