I took a sharp pick to the finish and pressed hard enough to dent the wood. Then I sanded it smooth and recoated. It turned smooth and good enough for this hobby builder who is hard on his bows. By the way I have a couple of coats of liquid beaver tail sprayed. Pictures to come in a new thread when finished.
But his bow will remain steady, and his hands will be skillful; because of the hands of the Mighty One of Jacob, because of the Shepherd, the Rock of Israel,  (Genesis 49:24 [NETfree])

Hi BenBow would it be possible for you put up a photo of the spray can of VHT clear coat that you have been using.
Thanks
Matt

Matt here's a picture of both brands but i prefer VHT. I hear Duplicolor makes a wheel sealer that's good but I haven't had a chance to find some and check it out.

I used the can on the left for a selfbow.

BenBow, have you done any flexibility testing on this finish?  I am about to finish a 59" yew bow with a rigid handle.  I'm drawing it 25".  I would like to try the gloss out on it.

scrub-buster the only testing I've done is shooting the bows I sprayed with it and it hasn't pealed, chipped, or cracked. If you want you could spray it on a thin strip and bend it till it breaks or the finish fails but I haven't had any problems with it.

I have the duplicolor on my bow and have shot it hundreds of times, maybe more and no stress marks yet....

Awesome.  Thanks guys.  I put it on an osage bow but its been to cold for me to shoot it much.  I really liked how it turned out.  I just wanted to make sure before I put it on a shorter yew bow.  It's hard for me to get a yew stave so I don't want to screw this one up.

Mine is a glass bow, not sure if that will be any different.I don't do selfbows.... (yet)

This one has the VHT on it. I plan on it being my 3D bow for this coming year so I will see how it does.

Mike, that doesn't look like actionwood. Is it dymalux?

I picked up a can of the VHT gloss tonight.  I'm going to try it on some arrows.  I can't decide wether  the Duplicolor matte or the VHT gloss on the yew bow.  I guess I'll wait until I put the skins on it to decide.

All this high tech paint talk is making me dizzy from the fumes. Why would a guy spray it on a selfbow or wood arrows? The Injuns didn't use it.

I rub bear fat, possum fat, or beaver fat on all my bows and woodies..

It is from Rosewood Archery. Imported stuff they call it dymondwood. They have high density and a lower density like actionwood. That one is high density (they called it Walnut) Dont stink as bad as dymondwood still about as brittle though. Same stuff in this only camo
